8. PHIL RASMUSSEN (Australia) – OCEANIA  – RESIGNED

  • World Armwrestling Federation Vice President, President of Australian Armwrestling Federation
  • Phil Rasmussen resigned from the WAF Executive Board

I asked Phil Rasmussen why he resigned, this was his answer:

“Due to a variety of factors including starting a new business, change in family circumstances, and the continued running of the Australian Armwrestling Federation, I was unable to fulfill my commitments with the WAF Executive Board and this had been the case for some time.

The position of WAF Vice President for Oceania will remain open, however at this stage I am unaware of any candidates who would nominate themselves for this responsibility. My journey in the sport of Armwrestling has been incredibly rewarding and I will continue to evolve the sport in Australia and support the global community.”

“I do hope still they can heal this rift with PAL and unite Armwrestling, that has always been our focus in Australia and will continue to be.”

Anti Doping At 2015 USAF National Championship

Anna Battke – Stop Doping │ Photo Source: tz.de [edited by XSportNews]

Simon Berriochoa – northeastboard.com:

” As previously communicated the USAF US National Championships will be a tested anti doping event. We aspire to be completely transparent about the substances that will be tested for as such they are listed below for this purpose. All of these substances are commonly banned in sports all over the world. Please keep in mind this is a sport not a debate about an individual’s right to make their own choices. If you want to compete you must be compliant with these rules and banned substances.
Athletes must be prepared to detail any substances, vitamins, supplements or medications that they are taking. In the event that you draw a test you will be asked to detail all of these substances to ensure we have a clear understanding of what you are taking and why.
Any athlete that believes they have a Physician endorsed medical need to be using these substances must obtain approval from the USAF well in advance of the event. This can only be facilitated after the athlete has provided all requested documentation and substantiation to the USAF then allowing the USAF to consider the athletes request for a Therapeutic Use Exemption, (TUE). The USAF reserves the right to be the sole determiner of granting a TUE. To clarify, simply because you have a prescription for Testosterone does not mean the USAF will allow you to compete while using the substance. The intent is to ensure safety and create parity in the sport, as such a prescription does not grant any athlete the right to be enhanced while competing at the USAF event.
I am sure this will spawn a great many questions, please do not hesitate to ask we will do our best to respond.

Best Regards,
Simon Berriochoa
President USAF

The Olympic Dream is over for Armwrestling. Joining SportAccord should be our target now

SportAccord – International Sports Federations │Source: sportaccord.com

Please read what Leonard Harkless (who is the World Armwrestling Federation Head Referee) wrote 2 years ago on northeastboard:

” I just had a conversation with Cobra today about this very subject. Simon did a ton of work and set up a crucial meeting with WAF and FILA. I have to say that it was a disaster, and our only way into the Olympics was mishandled. Now WAF has this feel good idea that if we just join this group called SportAccor”. Now don’t get me wrong there are some great associations that are a member of this body such as FILA that we have talked about in the past but the IOC is not adding sports and have called for less and not more. […]”

Continue reading on northeastboard what Leonard Harkless wrote.

Recommendation of IOC Executive Board

FILA was greatly astonished by today’s recommendation of the IOC Executive Board not to maintain wrestling among the 25 core sports for the 2020 Olympic Games. FILA will take all necessary measures to convince the IOC Executive Board and IOC members of the aberration of such decision against one of the founding sports of the ancient and modern Olympic Games. FILA has always complied with the IOC regulations and is reprensented in 180 countries, with wrestling being the national sport in a fair amount of them and the only possibility for athletes to represent their country at the Olympic Games, thus contributing to their universality.

The FILA Bureau will meet in Phuket (THA) on 16-17 February and will address this issue in view of the presentation of wrestling in front of the IOC Executive Board in St-Petersburg next May.
