Before the video, I posted what Dave Chaffee wrote about WAL 2017 Championship Finals, and about a plan he made with Michael Todd for Zloty Tur 2017.
Dave Chaffee – facebook: ” I can’t remember the last time I took second place and was not disappointed. For me I train to win and that is it. Yesterday was a bit different. I took second both arms at the finals here in Vegas and can leave with a smile on my face..On the left arm finals I got a win on Travis Bagent. A man who hadn’t taken a loss lefty in I don’t know how many years. I have been working very hard with my left for the past year And a half and that was a gigantic win.. And on the right arm I took second to Michael Todd who I pinned the first two times we pulled yesterday. Once in the prelims and also the first match of the finals. So I’m going to pretend In my optimistic head that this was a normal double elimination tournament and if so I would have went undefeated for the title. Unfortunately it wasn’t and I ran outta gas and Mike got the last two wins and took the title. Huge Congrats to Michael Todd he is a warrior ,has a TON of heart and deserves the championship. My arm was blown up for hours after that. It was absurd….And lastly Michael Todd Lets do this Zloty thing like we talked about. ”
Tom Nelson – facebook: ” BTW
WAF and WAL titles
Equals LEGEND
well done ”
Dave Chaffee – facebook: ” Thanks Tom..the WAF title is still my greatest accomplishment and probably always will be. ”
In the second video you can watch what happened after Travis Bagent came back to the table.

UPDATE: I added the WAL Heavyweight Hammer engraved by Devon Larratt and what he wrote:
Devon Larratt – facebook: ” Heavyweight Hammer –
There has long been debate about who is the greatest in their class. This answer has been different, depending on your beliefs about the sport, also the opportunities and vision provided by your regions. Internationally -these last few years, perhaps there has been a more of a divide than ever. In the countries WAL reached in the last 3-4 years, it has been widely believed that this league held the best of the best from the nations from which it was fed. Money, TV, and annual expansion were some of the factors that made those involved believe that we were on a path, which with time and continued growth would provide enough benefit and motivation to unify the globe so that the true best of best would be featured. The dream of world wide unification in our sport was visible through the fog. Is the WAL dream finished? maybe, maybe not… It is my honor to have my name listed next to these great champions. When hammers change hands, a new name is added with the event/date that the transfer took place. It is my hope, that these symbols will help to continue the most essential part of our dream – to be recognized as the very best in your field. May these hammers find their rightful owners regardless of nationality or league. “
(I’m not telling Todd you cried Devon <3) ”
Allison Renoos Hutchings – facebook: ” For those of you who don’t follow World Arm Wrestling League (Those of you who do, have heard enough comments I know!) :
For 1 year, in addition to his 50+ hr work week, Todd has had a 2nd job. It gets him up at 4 am every day, he returns to it every evening after his day job and every single weekend. He travels for it out of pocket around the country for mandatory meetings and to train. It’s labor intensive and grueling and injuries are common. (Once upon a time, a Monster ripped his bicep clean off and most thought he was mortal and wouldn’t recover!) His family life and schedule revolve around it -no time off. He doesn’t just have to show up to the job to get paid-he has to compete for it- against every person in the world who covets that position; **and let me tell you, the competition is vicious**. But no one can argue anyone works harder or is more disciplined at it or had more to lose than Todd. He has to be better than the best in the world at what he does or he doesn’t get the paycheck at the end of each year.
This year payday was June 29th in Vegas at the World Armwrestling League Championships. He was to earn $25,000 live on ESPN if he proved he earned it. On June 14th he learned the sponsorship fell through and there will be no $25k, no mega-venue, no live ESPN, no hammers. He’s uttered not a single complaint. Blamed no one. He’s tried to make those who’ve worked so hard alongside him laugh with him in the face of it. Refuses to allow self-pity. (Ok, there *was* a night of binge-eating M&Ms and guzzling expensive whiskey and staying up most of the night with me watching movies, after a year of strict health and weight requirements.)
Thanks to truly dedicated people behind the scenes, there will still be a chance to compete for the position and *because of the level of competition*, this is an honor in itself. He’s still going to compete that day. We’ll still get to see our armwrestling family.
He got up early again today to train just as hard as if the paycheck was $25k–because if you’re going to do something, you do your best no matter; you don’t half-ass it.
(You don’t need to tell him I posted this because there’s “feelings” and you know what he thinks about those..😐.)
Bonus: For those who haven’t seen Todd in action, here’s a great video. ”
Neil Pickup – facebook: ” I’d received a lot of PM’s, texts & e mails the last few days asking me about the situation with the WAL Finals cancellation & what is now happening in Vegas. Just to clarify my position on the subject, after having had it formally confirmed by WAL last night, that they do not require my input or assistance in Vegas as there is no role for me to fulfil there at this Event, I have decided that I will minimise my losses & will be staying home with my Family. My Flights & Hotels were booked & paid for on a non-refundable basis but to travel to Vegas & leave my Wife & Sons, again, for no real reason doesn’t sit well with me. I have not been & am not in any way involved in the organisation of the planned WAL Event in Vegas therefore so as such, I will unfortunately not be able to answer anyone’s further questions on this subject. My understanding is however that very experienced, good people like Bart Wood, Frank Bean, Karen Mainard Bean & Travis Bagent will be responsible for organising the Event & I’d like to take this opportunity to wish them & everyone involved in the WAL Event the very best of luck. The whole situation with the WAL Vegas Finals has been extremely unfortunate for everyone involved & I am absolutely sure that it is a situation that nobody wanted to be in at this time. Thank you to Steve Kaplan & the entire WAL Team for the opportunities & for allowing me to be involved in the WAL Events to date. Thank you also to the wider Armwrestling community for accepting me in the Role which I’ve been afforded in WAL Events to date. I tried my best to do a good job & I really hope that my efforts contributed positively to the past Events & Shows.
Finally to my friends who will be in Vegas to Pull, make it happen Guys, you are all the foundation of the Sport, I’ll miss being with you in Vegas & I look forward to hopefully seeing you all again down the Tracks. ”

Please read the text and answer the poll. You can choose multiple options. Thank you. 🙂
Over the years, there were many attempts to popularize the sport of armwrestling. If we look only at the last 5 years, we had Game of Arms which raised our hopes up, and when armwrestlers started to believe the show will do great things for the sport of armwrestling, the show got cancelled.
Now I feel that the same thing happens with WAL. Something is not right. What happened with WAL, made us appreciate more the promoters who dedicated their lives to promoting armwrestling events for more than 20 years.
When I don’t feel good about what happens in Armwrestling, I think (as a joke) about an ancient curse over this sport.
I believe it is safe to assume that this thing we call now Armwrestling was practiced (in a different form) from ancient Egyptian times. I know this was said before about armwrestling, although I didn’t see any proof, they had many Combat Sport Activities in Ancient Egypt.
Maybe, just maybe a pharaoh / god / cat got so upset over losing an armwrestling match that he put a curse on Armwrestling. 🙂
The curse could have been like: Armwrestling will never grow big, people will never find out that the great pharaoh / god / cat lost an armwrestling match. 🙂

” WAL Nation,
WAL has made the difficult decision not to host the 2017 Championships. While we understand that this decision may come as a surprise to many of you, especially because it is close to the Championships, the reason for the timing is because we were actively negotiating several large critical partnerships that would have moved WAL and the sport forward in a substantial way. We wanted to give as much time as possible to accomplish this goal for the league and the sport but unfortunately, these deals didn’t get done in time, therefore we have made the difficult decision to cancel the 2017 Championships.
We want to thank everyone who has supported WAL and the sport. ”
Gary Goodridge – facebook: ” I had trained a friend of mine. He had already qualified Janek Kwias we have been training for sometime now. Tonight we were on our last hard practice. Then we found out in the middle of practice. What we have been training for, spent many hours of training, was not going to happen. This was my first tournament back in a long time. We were also going to stay in Las Vegas for a week afterwards. Paid for our rooms and our plane tickets. I was never so disappointed when I found out these yahoos cancelled the tournament tonight. I am so disappointed with these idiots. There is no way that they didn’t know this awhile ago. They could of save us and many people from losing so much money. Along with all the hard training and time that we put into this. Two weeks before Tournament they cancelled. Needless to say this is one of the reasons I left the sport. Idiots promise in the moon and the stars. Then all we get is dirt or a no-show from promoters. I will never again waste my time and effort with idiots. I am so very disappointed in these bloody people. I love armwrestling and always have. But I hate these bloody yahoos that carry-on with crap and burn us in the end. ”
Tommy SE – facebook: ” World Armwrestling League you don’t cancel the event, you do something nevertheless, different venue, no prizes, despite the disagreements, etc. You just screwed people up, vulnerable, hard-working people. I just hope you understand WAL is done, you have dishonored, disrespected and touched us where it hurts the most. ”

These folks have been putting on tournaments for decades they’ve seen leagues come and go, and when the smoke cleared to this day they’re still putting on great tournaments. As a avid armwrestling fan and competitor……I thank you all. ”
Rick Pinkney – facebook: ” I woke up this morning with many messages about the WAL and how I should be happy that it failed. Well,, I’m not happy about it. Even though they dropped their Championship on top of the one I had been planning for over 1 1/2 years. Failure of one organization hurt all organizations.
When something like this happens it’s just bad for the sport. Friends from across Canada, the US, Europe and Australia are losing a lot of money by this cancellation. Being in the sport for as long as I have, I’ve seen this happen several times. Each time it happens it takes a toll on the next promoter that comes along. That person may have great intentions but the seeds of doubt that were planted by the previous failures will hurt them. Now this failure will really hurt the next person more than ever. Why? Because Steve was a billionaire and everyone figured those deep pockets wouldn’t do this. The fact that it was cancelled this close to the event will have lasting implications.
Just remember that when the next big one comes along and it will, do not forget about all the small promoters out there that have been busting their asses all these years to bring you even the small local events. If you’re in the US support and thank the people like Karen, Leonard, Denise and Bill and all the State directors for their hard work and dedication to the sport. In Canada we have a great bunch of Provincial directors and promoters like Perry and Joe that put on events to make this sport what it is.
We may not be in the Olympics or have million dollar pay checks but we have passion for the sport and a love of the people in it. Do not let one small set back dissuade you from continuing in the sport. If it does then you weren’t a real armwrestler to begin with. ”
