” Dear. Armwrestling Leaderships Around the World

Korea Armwrestling Federation (hereafter “KAF”) is writing this open letter in order to inform the world armwrestling community that KAF’s Board of Directors has decided to join the International Federation of Armwrestling (hereafter “IFA”) by leaving World Armwrestling Federation (hereafter “WAF”) if necessary.

KAF and KAF’s members have developed excellent relationships with both IFA and WAF leaderships, so choosing one over another was not an easy decision, and by making this decision (by joining IFA), KAF does not want to ruin its “pure friendship” with WAF leaderships as well as the remaining members of WAF.

However, we, KAF, must clarify that KAF’s Board of Directors make decisions in pursuit of Korean armwrestlers’ long-term benefits by providing them the best option to enjoy armwrestling as a sport. As a leader of armwrestling culture and local armwrestling clubs in Korea, KAF has always done its very best to make wise decisions in order to grow and remain as a great heritage to our future generations of armwrestling.

Last but not least, KAF would like to ask all the armwrestling organizations and leaderships – both national and international, both IFA and WAF – NOT TO FORGET the very first time we got together in pursuit of the development of armwrestling.

Let’s not losing RESPECT. Let’s not losing SPORTSMANSHIP.

Translation from Russian: ” By the decision of the Presidium of the Armwrestling Federation of Russia dated 5 July 2019, athletes and FAR referees are prohibited from participating in competitions under the auspices of the IFA (PAL, URPA).

Athletes or referees of the FAR, who will take part in competitions organized by one of the above organizations, will automatically lose membership in the FAR. These athletes or referees will not be able to continue to participate in the competition FAR, EAF, WAF. “

On July 8, 2019, the first meeting of the Provisional Executive Board of the International Armwrestling Federation (IFA) was held with the following agenda:

1. Consideration of applications for entry into the IFA, received on 07/08/2019;
2. Organizational issues of the First IFA World Armwrestling Championship which will be held on December 5-6, 2019 in Rumia, Poland.

Following the review of applications, the International Armwrestling Federation (IFA) approved the applications of the following national organizations:
1. United States Armwrestling Association, Inc., USA
2. Federazione Scuole Braccio di Ferro Italia, ITALY
3. Malaysia Armwrestling Federation, MALAYSIA
4. Iranian Armwrestling Institute, IRAN
5. Lebanese Armwrestling, LEBANON

To date, the International Armwrestling Federation (IFA) has received 26 applications for membership and the Provisional Executive Board expects the full package of documents required for consideration of applications from all countries applied at the next meeting of the Board, which will be held in the first week of August 2019.

Malaysia Armwrestling Federation – MYARM:

” CLARIFICATION OF MYARM MEMBERSHIP STATUS IN WORLD ARMWRESTLING FEDERATION (WAF) AND
DECLARATION OF JOINING INTERNATIONAL FEDERATION OF ARMWRESTLING (IFA)

Malaysia Armwrestling Federation (MYARM) is the governing body of armwrestling in Malaysia and until present still the legal member of World Armwrestling Federation (WAF). We have been member of WAF since 2014 via Putrajaya Armwrestling Association and then switched to MYARM in 2017.

Throughout the years we have developed the sports in Malaysia and supported WAF in terms of technical personnel (Referees), organized World Armwrestling Championship in Malaysia (WAC 2015 Kuala Lumpur) and the National team (World Armwrestling Championship 2015-2018).

However, we are not satisfied with last decisions made by WAF and WAF executive board since 2015, including below:
1. Unlawful License fee of EUR150,000 for World Armwrestling Championship 2015 organization (PAID). According to WAF regulations member-countries pay EUR 3000 only to host world championship and we came to know that information after 2015.

2. Unconditional bans of athletes, referees, organizers and countries that related with PAL/URPA professional armwrestling events.

3. WAF has banned our local international charity tournament “Premier 101 International Championship 2019” which caused serious material breach.

4. Unconstitutional removal of Poland as 2019 World Armwrestling Championship Host.

5. Unfair treatment by WAF executive boards to WAF Master Referee Mr. Zil Fadli and Senior Referee Goh Thian Weai (Flight reimbursment).

6. Asian Armwrestling Federation penaltize MYARM the sum of EUR2000 for fail to attend Asian Armwrestling Championship for 2 years consecutively (Unconstitutional).

However, since MYARM paid the membership fee in 2018 (expires in October 2019), and there is no official ban, termination or removal letter from WAF, our membership is still valid. Therefore, we will leave the membership status as it is until further notice.

Since one of the main goals of MYARM is to popularize Malaysia armwrestling and athletes at the international arena, the federation is making every effort to use the potential of international democratic sports associations to achieve this goal. Therefore, MYARM decided to join the newly formed International Armwrestling Federation (IFA). This steps will open new oppoturnities in international exchange of athletes, sports educational programs and also local armwrestling development.

MYARM will continuously develop the sport in Malaysia and protect equal approach to athletes from different countries and fair game at any level.

Poland, the 3rd country to leave WAF and EAF, after Sweden and Finland.

” Decision on termination of membership in the structures of the World Armwrestling Federation (WAF) and the European Armwrestling Federation (EAF).

The Federation of Armwrestling Poland conducted public consultations on June 14-21, 2019 among the Presidents of affiliated clubs, which resulted in a vote in the following matter. 21 out of 23 entitled voters voted “FOR” leaving the WAF and EAF structures and 2 holded off their vote.

Among the key aspects that influenced the decision should be mentioned:

1. Lack of transparency in the functioning of WAF and EAF management, including numerous suspicions of financial embezzlement.

2. Unsubstantiated suspension of the contract for the organisation of the World Championship (Katowice 2019).

3. The decisions to suspend the referees and players in a manner inconsistent with the WAF Constitution.

4. Unreasonable suspension of the official representatives and referees of the Federation of Armwrestling Poland and preventing them from performing their duties at the European Championships and other tournaments recommended by the WAF, without presenting official suspension decisions and preventing the appeal.

5. Restrictions on the freedom of athletes to choose tournaments by limiting participation in events only recommended by the management of WAF and EAF.

6. Violation of the constitutional principles of democracy by blocking the participation of individual national activists in the member countries’ assemblies and preventing them from expressing opinions and statements on matters directly related to them and on organizational matters of WAF and EAF.

In connection with the above allegations, the Federation of Armwrestling Poland terminates membership in the structures of the World Armwrestling Federation and the European Armwrestling Federation.

Thus, the Federation of Armwrestling Poland begins activities aimed at supporting new organizations that are transparent and are giving freedom to players and referees to choose sport events that are preferred by them to participate in. “
