World Armwrestling Rankings - 17.02.2022
World Armwrestling Rankings – 17.02.2022

How the WORLD ARMWRESTLING RANKINGS by Experts work:
Each voter can allocate 800-1200 point to an armwrestler. The total points from each voter for all 15 armwrestlers must be =15000.  Current voters (01 January 2022): Alper Cosar, Alexandros Volteas, Constantin Mihai, Leonardo Melo, Andrew Quade, Kevin Wolf (in no particular order). Scroll down to see the conditions to become a voter. We are still looking for voters, these are the conditions to become a voter in these rankings:1. You should be following the sport of armwrestling for at least 4-5 years, and other armwrestlers should know you;2. You should have knowledge of the results from the big armwrestling events, which change the rankings;3. You should be accepted as voter by the current voters. Why these new rankings ? After I saw what happened in the WORLD ARMWRESTLING RANKINGS by Votes (where many votes were… not objective), I realized two things: 1. Patriotism is not just a simple word for some voters 🙂 ; 2. The rankings should be made by armwrestlers who really follow this sport and have knowledge about it.THESE RANKINGS ARE SUBJECTIVE. We have a chat group where voters discuss about the armwrestling events. Although all voters watch the same matches they often have very different opinions about what happened there. One example: the recent left hand matches between Oleg Zhokh vs. Andrey Pushkar – LVIV OPEN CUP 2018 – some voters believed that Pushkar didn’t do his best, they were not convinced that Oleg deserves to be no. 1 yet… There are different opinions regarding the rankings all the time, therefore I believe it is impossible to have objective rankings. TENNIS HAS GOOD RANKINGS. In tennis there is absolutely no way to go fast at the top of the rankings. If a tennis player comes back after a break of 1 year, even if he wins a Grand Slam tournament (which means many tough matches with top players) he doesn’t become number 1. It is a very slow process, you have to compete and win a lot of matches in well ranked tournaments to get enough points, in order to get at the top of the rankings. If we would try to apply a similar points system in armwrestling then Denis Cyplenkov, who now competes only once in 2 years in Vendettas, would never enter the top 20 rankings even if he wins each time.CONCLUSION. We only have subjective rankings, but considering that some armwrestlers don’t compete too much, making a points system in armwrestling would not look good for some top armwrestlers.

All armwrestlers from the Current Pound for Pound list are champions and very strong, but because they are competing lighter weight classes it’s hard for them to be in the WORLD ARMWRESTLING RANKINGS. The Current Pound for Pound list is just a list with no particular order (not rankings), because it was too hard to rank the best current Pound for Pound armwrestlers.12 December 2019: The rankings were updated, considering the RESULTS: ZLOTY TUR 2019, TOP 8 VENDETTA 2019 VIDEOS. Krasimir Kostadinov moved up above Dmitry Silaev in the left hand rankings. Alex Kurdecha and Kydyrgaly Ongarbaev moved up above Rustam Babayev in the right hand rankings.26 November 2019: Denis Cyplenkov was removed from the left arm rankings, because he didn’t compete for more than 1 year, see ► RESULTS: ZLOTY TUR 2018, ARMFIGHT #50 VENDETTA ALL STARS. In the left arm rankings there is a tie: Krasimir Kostadinov and Georgy Dzeranov are both on 6th place. And in the right arm rankings there is also a tie: Genadi Kvikvinia and Tim Bresnan are both on 9th place.26 July 2019: The rankings were updated, considering the results of WAL 504. Although it’s only one change (Devon Larratt went above Dave Chaffee in the rankings), there was an intense debate between the voters in the ARMWRESTLING RANKINGS chat group, where we discuss about rankings and events…We even lost a voter (he left) because he strongly disagreed with King’s move and believed we shouldn’t accept the results of events where it is allowed… Even though not all voters agree with King’s move, it was agreed by the majority that we should accept the results from WAL…Armwrestlers know what to expect when they compete in WAL events… If they agree with the rules and what is allowed there, we also have to accept the results and include them in the rankings, whether we like it or not…01 July 2019: The rankings were updated, considering: 1. EUROARM 2019, 2. WAL 503, 3. WAL 502, 4. WAL 501In the left arm rankings Evgeny Prudnik and Alex Kurdecha have the same number of points therefore they are both on 8th place, Oleh Danilov and Grigory Orekhov have the same number of points therefore they are both on 10th place. In the right arm rankings Evgeny Prudnik and Devon Larratt have the same number of points therefore are both on 7th place, Rustam Babayev and Todd Hutchings have the same number of points, therefore they are both on 9th place15 April 2019: The rankings were updated, considering: 1 RESULTS: TOP 8 VENDETTA 2019, Kuching, Malaysia │ 2. RESULTS: Russian Armwrestling Championship 2019 │3. RESULTS: WORLD ELITE ARMWRESTLING 2018Removed (-):

If you want to understand why ties happen, scroll down and read below the rankings.24 September 2018: The rankings were updated, considering what happened at  WAL 4062018 MOLDOVA ARMWRESTLING OPEN CUP 2ARMFIGHT #48 Vendetta and more. Below the rankings I added the reasoning/explanations from a voter for his rankings. For the first time we have a tie: Dmitry Trubin and Andrey Pushkar have the same number of points, they both are on 2nd place in the right hand rankings. We now only show Top 15 instead of Top 20.11 July 2018: Dmitry Trubin was removed from the left hand rankings after what happened at ZG STRONG 2018. Viacheslav Sharagovich was the first one who almost pinned Trubin with left hand, he got him tired. Next Trubin lost with Manuel Battaglia, won 2 matches and lost with Markus Liebminger – this was his last match with left hand (watch the matches here ►  ZG STRONG 2018). Viacheslav Sharagovich, Manuel Battaglia and Markus Liebminger were not in the top 20 therefore Dmitry Trubin was removed from the top 20 left hand rankings to reflect the current state of his left arm. All other armwrestlers moved one position up.04 December 2017: The rankings were updated, considering what happened at  and at , See ► RESULTS: ARMFIGHT #48 VENDETTA ALL STARS and ► RESULTS: Zloty Tur 2017 World Cup03 July 2018: THE RANKINGS WERE UPDATED CONSIDERING WHAT HAPPENED AT LVIV OPEN CUP 2018, WAL events and in other armwrestling events. Ermes Gasparini was removed because he didn’t compete for more than 1 year. Other armwrestlers were removed and some were added.21 September 2017: The rankings were updated considering what happened at WorldArm 2017, See ► RESULTS: WORLDARM 2017: 39th World Armwrestling Championships 2017 (WAF). This time only 4 voters voted, therefore some changes were made all over the rankings.25 July 2017:  was removed from the right hand rankings, because he competed last time on 22 July 2016 ► RESULTS: ARMFIGHT #46 VENDETTA ALL STARS, LAS VEGAS, PHOTOSAll armwrestlers who were below Cyplenkov moved one place up. We only show top 20, but the voters vote using a bigger list of armwrestlers.09 July 2017: The rankings were updated considering what happened at WAL 2017 CHAMPIONSHIP FINALS and at ZG STRONG 2017 WORLD ARMWRESTLING CUP.02 June 2017: New additions: Sasho Andreev, Evgeny Prudnik – left hand; Vitaly Laletin, Sasho Andreev, Evgeny Prudnik – right hand. Some armwrestlers were removed because they didn’t compete for more than 1 year.10 April 2017: We have 3 new voters: Giorgi Chochia (Georgia), Constantin Mihai (Romania), Ryan Bowen (Australia). Side by side rankings from all the voters (in no particular order) were added.26 July 2016: Denis Cyplenkov was added to the rankings and other changes were made in the right hand rankings considering the RESULTS: ARMFIGHT #46 VENDETTA ALL STARS, LAS VEGAS, PHOTOS. We have a new voter: Alejandro De Gyves – he is pulling for about 20 years, and he makes the rankings in Mexico.01 July 2016: In these rankings was taken into consideration the fact that Travis Bagent won over Dave Chaffee (right hand) at WAL Las Vegas 2016 finals. These rankings will be updated often – after any armwrestling event which change the rankings.—Other rankings / ratings you should check out: ► Official U.S. Rankings ► Armwrestling Rating List by Oleg Stepanov

World Armwrestling League WAL Ranking System

3 VIDEOS: World Armwrestling League WAL Ranking System, Global Expansion 2017

The link for the WAL rankings is posted after the videos, scroll down.

It’s a very nice ranking system, let’s only hope that WAL will include all countries at one point in the future. It would be really great to see armwrestlers like Andrey Pushkar (Ukraine), Denis Cyplenkov (Russia), Dmitry Trubin (Kazakhstan) and many other strong armwrestlers from Eastern Europe and Asia being able to compete in WAL. When armwrestlers from all over the world will be allowed to compete in WAL, the word WORLD from World Armwrestling League (WAL) will be justified.

In the 1st video Ben Murray explains the WAL Ranking System Basics.

In the 2nd video Ben Murray talks with Duan Beckett – who made the armwrestling ranking system for Australia, and now the system is also used by World Armwrestling League WAL.

In the 3rd video Steve Kaplan – the WAL President talks about about WAL plans for 2016 and 2017, about WAL rankings and global expansion: “Oceania region most likely will include Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Indonesia. So it will be a global expansion, but it will still not be open to all the countries of the world. “

Steve Kaplan – 2:02 ” As the WAL continues its rapid ascent and evolves into a force in the sports marketplace so too must our league and our competition format. The new WAL ranking system for both pro and amateur competitors is our biggest and most ambitious leap forward to date. But when done will provide the foundation to future growth and opportunity.
Creating the right ranking system for our sport was not an easy undertaking as nothing of this scale has been done before. The system had to be robust enough to accommodate all of the needs of our sport its fans and the competitors plus be flexible enough to address our rapid growth in global platform. There’s a daunting task to say the least but we’ve never been an organization that shy away from a challenge so we rolled up our sleeves and went to work to deliver what will be the best ranking system around.
The system we are creating will be as user friendly and inviting for those who are experienced in the sport as it is for those that are first-timers and whether you’re a competitor or a fan you’ll find it engaging and informative.
Users will be able to check our rankings and easily sort by class, by geography to determine rankings by state, country, province or world level rankings. Users will also be able to check results from past events going back to 2014.
Rankings can also be viewed at the competitive level, where one can chart the progress in history of a competitor see head-to-head record with other competitors, checkout stats and bio competitor and much more.
Users will also be able to watch WAL live feeds from here as well. Many of these features will be available on launch while others will follow as soon as we can make them possible. Soft launch will begin this weekend in September 24th with Tony Kitowski Wisconsin state championship event in Madison. Each event thereafter is eligible for ranking points.
As we open it up on day one we will still be in the testing and development phase so please have patience and understanding as we work through the glitches that are sure to exist.
The system in one form has been active in use in Australia for several years, but this custom WAL version is brand-new and as is the case in any large roll out there will be some bumps kinks and unanswered questions along with changes to come. We have created a process to address those questions but again have patience as we implement this new system.
The plan is to test the system in live use this fall for full implementation in the 2017 season, at which time we plan to rely on it to determine some of the advancement in the championships. More on that in a minute.
It’s also important to note that our directors will play a vital role in the success of this system. And while there will be backups a key to this and any ranking system is clear and accurate match results. So directors make sure to follow the simple steps that Ben outlined for you, so that all competitors receive fair and accurate rankings.
In the next couple days that will be going through the details on the rankings including how it works and how you can let us know when you find an issue in your rankings. “
5:18 – ” Before I move on to the WAL 2017 season I want to take a quick minute to thanks to Andrew Lea, Duan Beckett, the Australian Armwrestling Federation, and of course to Ben Murray for their vision and tenacity in helping to put this system in place. “

Engin Terzi ► Armwrestling John – Engin:

Dear Armwrestling World,

I do the rankings for many years just to promote our sport by creating an excitement.. I do not expect anything from it,not money nor honour… I even asked Fabio Nimis to do this but he didnt accept it.. I do my best to be as fair as possible to anyone.. There is no single time that it is possible to make everyone happy.. I try to answer the critiques as detailed as possible.. Once again I don’t have intention to gain anything back by doing the rankings.. None of you are paying me for the rankings so please criticise in a respectful manner as much as possible to not to discourage me.. I am not expecting to be thanked, neither to be disrespected.. THANKS
