World Armwrestling Rankings - 17.02.2022
World Armwrestling Rankings – 17.02.2022

How the WORLD ARMWRESTLING RANKINGS by Experts work:
Each voter can allocate 800-1200 point to an armwrestler. The total points from each voter for all 15 armwrestlers must be =15000.  Current voters (01 January 2022): Alper Cosar, Alexandros Volteas, Constantin Mihai, Leonardo Melo, Andrew Quade, Kevin Wolf (in no particular order). Scroll down to see the conditions to become a voter. We are still looking for voters, these are the conditions to become a voter in these rankings:1. You should be following the sport of armwrestling for at least 4-5 years, and other armwrestlers should know you;2. You should have knowledge of the results from the big armwrestling events, which change the rankings;3. You should be accepted as voter by the current voters. Why these new rankings ? After I saw what happened in the WORLD ARMWRESTLING RANKINGS by Votes (where many votes were… not objective), I realized two things: 1. Patriotism is not just a simple word for some voters 🙂 ; 2. The rankings should be made by armwrestlers who really follow this sport and have knowledge about it.THESE RANKINGS ARE SUBJECTIVE. We have a chat group where voters discuss about the armwrestling events. Although all voters watch the same matches they often have very different opinions about what happened there. One example: the recent left hand matches between Oleg Zhokh vs. Andrey Pushkar – LVIV OPEN CUP 2018 – some voters believed that Pushkar didn’t do his best, they were not convinced that Oleg deserves to be no. 1 yet… There are different opinions regarding the rankings all the time, therefore I believe it is impossible to have objective rankings. TENNIS HAS GOOD RANKINGS. In tennis there is absolutely no way to go fast at the top of the rankings. If a tennis player comes back after a break of 1 year, even if he wins a Grand Slam tournament (which means many tough matches with top players) he doesn’t become number 1. It is a very slow process, you have to compete and win a lot of matches in well ranked tournaments to get enough points, in order to get at the top of the rankings. If we would try to apply a similar points system in armwrestling then Denis Cyplenkov, who now competes only once in 2 years in Vendettas, would never enter the top 20 rankings even if he wins each time.CONCLUSION. We only have subjective rankings, but considering that some armwrestlers don’t compete too much, making a points system in armwrestling would not look good for some top armwrestlers.

All armwrestlers from the Current Pound for Pound list are champions and very strong, but because they are competing lighter weight classes it’s hard for them to be in the WORLD ARMWRESTLING RANKINGS. The Current Pound for Pound list is just a list with no particular order (not rankings), because it was too hard to rank the best current Pound for Pound armwrestlers.12 December 2019: The rankings were updated, considering the RESULTS: ZLOTY TUR 2019, TOP 8 VENDETTA 2019 VIDEOS. Krasimir Kostadinov moved up above Dmitry Silaev in the left hand rankings. In the left arm rankings there is a tie: Krasimir Kostadinov and Georgy Dzeranov are both on 6th place. And in the right arm rankings there is also a tie: Genadi Kvikvinia and Tim Bresnan are both on 9th place.26 July 2019: The rankings were updated, considering the results of WAL 504. Although it’s only one change (Devon Larratt went above Dave Chaffee in the rankings), there was an intense debate between the voters in the ARMWRESTLING RANKINGS chat group, where we discuss about rankings and events…We even lost a voter (he left) because he strongly disagreed with King’s move and believed we shouldn’t accept the results of events where it is allowed… Even though not all voters agree with King’s move, it was agreed by the majority that we should accept the results from WAL…Armwrestlers know what to expect when they compete in WAL events… If they agree with the rules and what is allowed there, we also have to accept the results and include them in the rankings, whether we like it or not…01 July 2019: The rankings were updated, considering: 1. EUROARM 2019, 2. WAL 503, 3. WAL 502, 4. If you want to understand why ties happen, scroll down and read below the rankings.24 September 2018: The rankings were updated, considering what happened at  WAL 4062018 MOLDOVA ARMWRESTLING OPEN CUP 2ARMFIGHT #48 Vendetta and more. Below the rankings I added the reasoning/explanations from a voter for his rankings. For the first time we have a tie: Dmitry Trubin and Andrey Pushkar have the same number of points, they both are on 2nd place in the right hand rankings. We now only show Top 15 instead of Top 20.11 July 2018: Dmitry Trubin was removed from the left hand rankings after what happened at ZG STRONG 2018. Viacheslav Sharagovich was the first one who almost pinned Trubin with left hand, he got him tired. Next Trubin lost with Manuel Battaglia, won 2 matches and lost with Markus Liebminger – this was his last match with left hand (watch the matches here ►  ZG STRONG 2018). Viacheslav Sharagovich, Manuel Battaglia and Markus Liebminger were not in the top 20 therefore Dmitry Trubin was removed from the top 20 left hand rankings to reflect the current state of his left arm. All other armwrestlers moved one position up.04 December 2017: The rankings were updated, considering what happened at  and at , See ► RESULTS: ARMFIGHT #48 VENDETTA ALL STARS and ► RESULTS: Zloty Tur 2017 World Cup03 July 2018: THE RANKINGS WERE UPDATED CONSIDERING WHAT HAPPENED AT LVIV OPEN CUP 2018, WAL events and in other armwrestling events. Ermes Gasparini was removed because he didn’t compete for more than 1 year. We only show top 20, but the voters vote using a bigger list of armwrestlers.09 July 2017: The rankings were updated considering what happened at WAL 2017 CHAMPIONSHIP FINALS and at ZG STRONG 2017 WORLD ARMWRESTLING CUP.02 June 2017: New additions: Sasho Andreev, Evgeny Prudnik – left hand; Vitaly Laletin, Sasho Andreev, Evgeny Prudnik – right hand. Some armwrestlers were removed because they didn’t compete for more than 1 year.10 April 2017: We have 3 new voters: Giorgi Chochia (Georgia), Constantin Mihai (Romania), Ryan Bowen (Australia). Side by side rankings from all the voters (in no particular order) were added.26 July 2016: Denis Cyplenkov was added to the rankings and other changes were made in the right hand rankings considering the RESULTS: ARMFIGHT #46 VENDETTA ALL STARS, LAS VEGAS, PHOTOS. We have a new voter: Alejandro De Gyves – he is pulling for about 20 years, and he makes the rankings in Mexico.01 July 2016: In these rankings was taken into consideration the fact that Travis Bagent won over Dave Chaffee (right hand) at WAL Las Vegas 2016 finals. These rankings will be updated often – after any armwrestling event which change the rankings.—Other rankings / ratings you should check out: ► Official U.S. Rankings ► Armwrestling Rating List by Oleg Stepanov

One very important find was this Report from Doping Committee copied on northeastboard in 2009:

” Report from Doping Committee
At the 2007 Worlds in Bulgaria ? We had 1 person test positive
DZAMBOLAT TSORIEV from Russia has been suspended for 2 years until December 31, 2009
At the 2008 European Championship in Norway
We had 3 people test positive
TIMUR BICHILOV Russia, OLGA GAVRILOVA, Russia and SOFIYA AKHMETGAREEVA, Russia.
They were all given 2 year suspension until August 31, 2010.
We do 20 tests at the World level and 30 tests at the European Level for a total of 50 tests per year. To date, we have done 200 tests and have had 15 positive.
7 from Russia
1 from Slovakia
1 from Brazil
2 from Latvia
1 from Romania
1 from Bulgaria
1 from Uzbekistan
1 from Ukraine
Please note that all tests are conducted by luck of the draw “

This report is very important because it talks about some doping cases from the past without giving the names, only the names of the countries. And if you follow the discussions from that topic you will see that even Engin Terzi never heard about anyone tested positive from those countries. This means that we still don’t know all the names, and I really tried to find them all.

This is not ok considering that according to the 2015 WADA Code (which is now in force): ” 10.13 Automatic Publication of Sanction A mandatory part of each sanction shall include automatic publication, as provided in Article 14.3. ”

UPDATE (14.09.2021): The list was updated considering the results from Kazakhstan National Anti-Doping Agency.

Kody Spur Merritt  (received a retroactive TUE  Therapeutic Use Exemption, last year) is now again on the doping list with Methasterone.

Methasterone, also known as methyldrostanolone and known by the nickname Superdrol, is a synthetic and orally active anabolic–androgenic steroid (AAS) which was never marketed for medical use. It was brought to the black market, instead, in a clandestine fashion as a “designer steroid.” Source: Methasterone – wikipedia

Alexey Voevoda, Anti-Doping Rule Violation confirmed

Alexey Voevoda: No Lifetime Ban, Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) decision

Alexey Voevoda, Anti-Doping Rule Violation confirmed
Alexey Voevoda, Anti-Doping Rule Violation confirmed

Alexey Voevoda is one of the 11 cases for which the Anti-Doping Rule Violations (ADRV) are confirmed by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

Nevertheless, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) decided that all 11 athletes with confirmed Anti-Doping Rule Violations (ADRV) are declared ineligible only for the Olympic Winter Games (i.e. Pyeongchang 2018) instead of a life ban from all Olympic Games.

” In 11 cases, the evidence collected was found to be sufficient to establish an individual ADRV. The IOC decisions in these matters are confirmed, with one exception: the athletes are declared ineligible for the next edition of the Olympic Winter Games (i.e. Pyeongchang 2018) instead of a life ban from all Olympic Games.”

Following the investigation performed by Prof. McLaren with respect to the manipulation of anti- doping procedures during the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi 2014, the IOC DC found 43 Russian athletes to have committed anti-doping rule violations during the 2014 Olympic Winter Games, disqualified them from the events in which they participated in Sochi and forfeited all medals won by them. The athletes were also declared ineligible to participate in any capacity in all subsequent editions of the Olympic Games. At the end of December 2017, all but one of the athletes (Maxim Belugin/bobsleigh) filed an appeal at the CAS.

A CAS procedure was opened for each individual athlete. Arbitral panels were constituted for each procedure and were composed of Prof. Christoph Vedder (Germany), President, Dr Dirk-Reiner Martens (Germany), and Dr Hamid Gharavi (France/Iran) for one group of procedures and Prof. Michael Geistlinger (Austria) for the second group of procedures. The remaining procedures, involving 3 biathletes, have been suspended and will be heard after the 2018 Olympic Winter Games.

The procedures were conducted jointly on an expedited basis and a combined hearing took place from 22 to 27 January 2018 in Geneva. Every athlete attended the hearing, except two who were not available, and were heard individually. Several experts and fact witnesses, such as Dr Grigory Rodchenkov and Prof. Richard McLaren, testified during the hearing.

Both CAS panels unanimously found that the evidence put forward by the IOC in relation to this matter did not have the same weight in each individual case. In 28 cases, the evidence collected was found to be insufficient to establish that an anti-doping rule violation (ADRV) was committed by the athletes concerned. With respect to these 28 athletes, the appeals are upheld, the sanctions annulled and their individual results achieved in Sochi 2014 are reinstated.

In 11 cases, the evidence collected was found to be sufficient to establish an individual ADRV. The IOC decisions in these matters are confirmed, with one exception: the athletes are declared ineligible for the next edition of the Olympic Winter Games (i.e. Pyeongchang 2018) instead of a life ban from all Olympic Games. The mandate of the CAS Panels was not to determine generally whether there was an organized scheme allowing the manipulation of doping control samples in the Sochi laboratory but was strictly limited to dealing with 39 individual cases and to assess the evidence applicable to each athlete on an individual basis.

A total of 43 Russian athletes were banned by the IOC. Three more are still waiting to have their appeals heard and one — bobsledder Maxim Belugin — has not appealed.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) overturned the IOC suspensions – for doping at the 2014 Winter Olympics – partially upholding 11 other appeals.

In the statement explaining its decision, Cas said its mandate “was not to determine generally whether there was an organised scheme allowing the manipulation of doping control samples in the Sochi laboratory”.

It said it was “strictly limited to dealing with 39 individual cases and to assess the evidence applicable to each athlete on an individual basis”.

CAS said that in 28 cases evidence was “insufficient” to prove doping.

Cas secretary general Matthieu Reeb said there was only “circumstantial evidence” that supported individual claims of doping.

He added: “It is a matter where there is no direct evidence, such as positive test or a voluntary admission.

“This does not mean that the 28 athletes are declared innocent, but due to insufficient evidence the appeals are upheld, the sanctions annulled and their results in Sochi are reinstated.”

Alexey Voevoda is NOT one of the 28 doping cases overturned by CAS – Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Alexander Zubkov, who was Alexey Voevoda’s teammate in both Two-man and Four-man bobsleigh at Sochi 2014, was one of the 11 (eleven) whose doping offences were confirmed.

” Russian double Olympic gold medalist Alexey Voevoda has been banned for life for doping at the 2014 Winter Games.

Voevoda, 37, won in the four-man and two-man bobsleigh in Sochi.

But Russia was already disqualified from both events after Voevoda’s team-mate Alexander Zubkov was also banned for doping in November.

The International Olympic Committee’s decision means 32 Russian athletes have been banned for life for doping violations at Sochi 2014.

Russia has been banned from the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang for “systematic manipulation” of the anti-doping system detailed in the McLaren Report.

Grigory Rodchenkov (the former director of a Moscow laboratory, the Anti-Doping Centre) said that all russian athletes from were using doping. Russia won a record number of 13 gold medals at Sochi 2014, Alexey Voevoda won 2 gold medals.

According to the documentary, this happened because Vladimir Putin wanted to prove that Russian athletes are the best, and he involved even the Federal Security Service (the former KGB) to take care of this.

I have to say that it is unfair for armwrestling and other non-Olympic games because, in the same 2014 year, Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) was very active, probably wanting to prove that they take anti-doping seriously, and made a record number of doping tests with many positive results, including the biggest number of russian armwrestlers that failed the doping test. See ► List of doping cases in Armwrestling

I also want to mention that even after this very good documentary, I don’t see Russia as being the only country doing cover ups of doping. A similar scandal took place in USA. The only difference is that in USA they don’t always kill people for telling the truth. 🙂

In 2003, Wade Exum, the United States Olympic Committee‘s director of drug control administration from 1991 to 2000, gave copies of documents to Sports Illustrated that revealed that some 100 American athletes failed drug tests from 1988 to 2000, arguing that they should have been prevented from competing in the Olympics but were nevertheless cleared to compete. Back to Icarus (plot summary): When Bryan Fogel sets out to uncover the truth about doping in sports, a chance meeting with a Russian scientist transforms his story from a personal experiment into a geopolitical thriller involving dirty urine, unexplained death and Olympic Gold-exposing the biggest scandal in sports history. Icarus on imdb: 8.1 ⭐
