On January 27, live on Sport.ro television was held the much anticipated final of the competition. After the qualifying round these armwrestlers entered the final: Sabin Badulescu, Viorel Dobrin, Alin Sandu, Constantin Mihai. Olimpiu Fat (who was one of the 4 automatically qualified armwrestlers) could not come because of an injury, therefore Daniel Barbu entered the finals the (ranked 5th in the qualifying round). The competition was league (round-robin) tournament with both left and right arms.
It started with the left arm, where, after 26 matches, the first 5 were very close, the difference between the 1st and the 5th place was only 14 points. Danut Borbil came first, amassing 110 points, the favorite to win the title.
Unfortunately Danut injured his right arm in a direct match with Sabin Badulescu. Being the first match of the right arm, he could not continue at full capacity, finally placing at #5.
Andrei “The Bullet” Chipreanov was the most consistently winning second place on both arms and overall. An important moment was when Andrei inadvertently lost by two fouls, a confrontation that seemed easy.
Viorel Dobrin, the lightest of athletes, only 75 kg, is a force of nature, getting the same score as Stefan Tamas, 200 points. The tie in the overall ranking was made by an additional match between them, match won by Stefan.
Surprise did Sabin Badulescu made a surprise, he hasn’t lost a match with his right arm, and he was the overall winner.
The refereeing was provided by Victor Barbu, Mircea Simionescu-Simicel, Eduard Dimiean and Daniel Petre.
