UPDATE: I added the WAL Heavyweight Hammer engraved by Devon Larratt and what he wrote:

Devon Larratt – facebook: ” Heavyweight Hammer –
There has long been debate about who is the greatest in their class. This answer has been different, depending on your beliefs about the sport, also the opportunities and vision provided by your regions. Internationally -these last few years, perhaps there has been a more of a divide than ever. In the countries WAL reached in the last 3-4 years, it has been widely believed that this league held the best of the best from the nations from which it was fed. Money, TV, and annual expansion were some of the factors that made those involved believe that we were on a path, which with time and continued growth would provide enough benefit and motivation to unify the globe so that the true best of best would be featured. The dream of world wide unification in our sport was visible through the fog. Is the WAL dream finished? maybe, maybe not… It is my honor to have my name listed next to these great champions. When hammers change hands, a new name is added with the event/date that the transfer took place. It is my hope, that these symbols will help to continue the most essential part of our dream – to be recognized as the very best in your field. May these hammers find their rightful owners regardless of nationality or league. “

Allison Renoos Hutchings – facebook: ” Devon Larratt proposed the winners of each weight class 2016 offer their hammer up for the winner of those who have trained all year to earn the 2017 hammer. Fantastic idea. Todd’s in.
(I’m not telling Todd you cried Devon <3) ”

Allison Renoos Hutchings – facebook: ” For those of you who don’t follow World Arm Wrestling League (Those of you who do, have heard enough comments I know!) :
For 1 year, in addition to his 50+ hr work week, Todd has had a 2nd job. It gets him up at 4 am every day, he returns to it every evening after his day job and every single weekend. He travels for it out of pocket around the country for mandatory meetings and to train. It’s labor intensive and grueling and injuries are common. (Once upon a time, a Monster ripped his bicep clean off and most thought he was mortal and wouldn’t recover!) His family life and schedule revolve around it -no time off. He doesn’t just have to show up to the job to get paid-he has to compete for it- against every person in the world who covets that position; **and let me tell you, the competition is vicious**. But no one can argue anyone works harder or is more disciplined at it or had more to lose than Todd. He has to be better than the best in the world at what he does or he doesn’t get the paycheck at the end of each year.
This year payday was June 29th in Vegas at the World Armwrestling League Championships. He was to earn $25,000 live on ESPN if he proved he earned it. On June 14th he learned the sponsorship fell through and there will be no $25k, no mega-venue, no live ESPN, no hammers. He’s uttered not a single complaint. Blamed no one. He’s tried to make those who’ve worked so hard alongside him laugh with him in the face of it. Refuses to allow self-pity. (Ok, there *was* a night of binge-eating M&Ms and guzzling expensive whiskey and staying up most of the night with me watching movies, after a year of strict health and weight requirements.)
Thanks to truly dedicated people behind the scenes, there will still be a chance to compete for the position and *because of the level of competition*, this is an honor in itself. He’s still going to compete that day. We’ll still get to see our armwrestling family.
He got up early again today to train just as hard as if the paycheck was $25k–because if you’re going to do something, you do your best no matter; you don’t half-ass it.
(You don’t need to tell him I posted this because there’s “feelings” and you know what he thinks about those..😐.)
Bonus: For those who haven’t seen Todd in action, here’s a great video. ”

Neil Pickup – facebook: ” I’d received a lot of PM’s, texts & e mails the last few days asking me about the situation with the WAL Finals cancellation & what is now happening in Vegas. Just to clarify my position on the subject, after having had it formally confirmed by WAL last night, that they do not require my input or assistance in Vegas as there is no role for me to fulfil there at this Event, I have decided that I will minimise my losses & will be staying home with my Family. My Flights & Hotels were booked & paid for on a non-refundable basis but to travel to Vegas & leave my Wife & Sons, again, for no real reason doesn’t sit well with me. I have not been & am not in any way involved in the organisation of the planned WAL Event in Vegas therefore so as such, I will unfortunately not be able to answer anyone’s further questions on this subject. My understanding is however that very experienced, good people like Bart Wood, Frank Bean, Karen Mainard Bean & Travis Bagent will be responsible for organising the Event & I’d like to take this opportunity to wish them & everyone involved in the WAL Event the very best of luck. The whole situation with the WAL Vegas Finals has been extremely unfortunate for everyone involved & I am absolutely sure that it is a situation that nobody wanted to be in at this time. Thank you to Steve Kaplan & the entire WAL Team for the opportunities & for allowing me to be involved in the WAL Events to date. Thank you also to the wider Armwrestling community for accepting me in the Role which I’ve been afforded in WAL Events to date. I tried my best to do a good job & I really hope that my efforts contributed positively to the past Events & Shows.
Finally to my friends who will be in Vegas to Pull, make it happen Guys, you are all the foundation of the Sport, I’ll miss being with you in Vegas & I look forward to hopefully seeing you all again down the Tracks. ”

POLL: Do you think Armwrestling is cursed ? VIDEO

Anubis and Sobek armwrestling │ Image Source: Arm wrestling by HeiXieXun
Anubis and Sobek armwrestling │ Image Source: Arm wrestling by HeiXieXun

Please read the text and answer the poll. You can choose multiple options. Thank you. 🙂

Over the years, there were many attempts to popularize the sport of armwrestling. If we look only at the last 5 years, we had  which raised our hopes up, and when armwrestlers started to believe the show will do great things for the sport of armwrestling, the show got cancelled.

Now I feel that the same thing happens with WAL. Something is not right. What happened with WAL, made us appreciate more the promoters who dedicated their lives to promoting armwrestling events for more than 20 years.

When I don’t feel good about what happens in Armwrestling, I think (as a joke) about an ancient curse over this sport.

I believe it is safe to assume that this thing we call now Armwrestling was practiced (in a different form) from ancient Egyptian times. I know this was said before about armwrestling, although I didn’t see any proof, they had many Combat Sport Activities in Ancient Egypt.

Maybe, just maybe a pharaoh / god / cat got so upset over losing an armwrestling match that he put a curse on Armwrestling. 🙂

The curse could have been like: Armwrestling will never grow big, people will never find out that the great pharaoh / god / cat lost an armwrestling match. 🙂

Allison Renoos Hutchings – facebook: ” I’m still going to Vegas. And I’m still bringing Todd. And he’s still bringing his side pressure. I figure if 250 of you line up across a table from him for $100 matches, we’ll recoup our losses in an hour. 💪🌞🍺🍹👙 ”

Tim Lewis – facebook: ” Bart Wood is the new untelevised 2017 championship still being run under the WAL umbrella ? Do you know whether this is it for good or whether things plan on continuing next year? A lot of us just feel like we deserve straight answers. ”

Bart Wood – facebook: ” This is a WAL sanctioned event backed by WAL. ”

World Armwrestling League – facebook:

” WAL Nation,
WAL has made the difficult decision not to host the 2017 Championships. While we understand that this decision may come as a surprise to many of you, especially because it is close to the Championships, the reason for the timing is because we were actively negotiating several large critical partnerships that would have moved WAL and the sport forward in a substantial way. We wanted to give as much time as possible to accomplish this goal for the league and the sport but unfortunately, these deals didn’t get done in time, therefore we have made the difficult decision to cancel the 2017 Championships.
We want to thank everyone who has supported WAL and the sport. ”

Gary Goodridge – facebook: ” I had trained a friend of mine. He had already qualified Janek Kwias we have been training for sometime now. Tonight we were on our last hard practice. Then we found out in the middle of practice. What we have been training for, spent many hours of training, was not going to happen. This was my first tournament back in a long time. We were also going to stay in Las Vegas for a week afterwards. Paid for our rooms and our plane tickets. I was never so disappointed when I found out these yahoos cancelled the tournament tonight. I am so disappointed with these idiots. There is no way that they didn’t know this awhile ago. They could of save us and many people from losing so much money. Along with all the hard training and time that we put into this. Two weeks before Tournament they cancelled. Needless to say this is one of the reasons I left the sport. Idiots promise in the moon and the stars. Then all we get is dirt or a no-show from promoters. I will never again waste my time and effort with idiots. I am so very disappointed in these bloody people. I love armwrestling and always have. But I hate these bloody yahoos that carry-on with crap and burn us in the end. ”

Tommy SE – facebook: ” World Armwrestling League you don’t cancel the event, you do something nevertheless, different venue, no prizes, despite the disagreements, etc. You just screwed people up, vulnerable, hard-working people. This is an atrocity and sad day for the sport. You have no idea what you have done to something we all love and support with our hearts. I just hope you understand WAL is done, you have dishonored, disrespected and touched us where it hurts the most. ”

Jonathan Hoffmann – facebook: ” If #wal doesn’t pay back flights etc and do some damage control then they could be looking at a serious issue with a lawsuit.. maybe class action ”

James Worke – facebook: ” The money made on qualifiers should be used to reimburse those going to finals that are losing money on nonrefundable flights, etc ”

Chase Stratton – facebook: ” My family and I just lost nearly $700 on non refundable plane tickets. This really hurts us. We had no idea this could happen, especially since the tournament is only 2 weeks away. ”

Christ Russakis – facebook: ” This is a sad day for the sport of Armwrestling!! This seems to happen to all that try!! But Wal could of handled cancellation better than this!! After everyone has trained and paid for the trip!! Just awful news!!! ”

Kevin Nelson – facebook: ” Armwrestle for the sport, for that match that you dug deep and left it all on the table wether on tv or in some guy’s garage. Do this and you will never lose! ”

Greg Gray -facebook: ” Have your July plans just been cancelled. Well come on down to Bonebreaker Gym, we’re having a tournament!

https://www.facebook.com/events/1358496194244278/

Jason Biava – facebook: ” What is sooooo difficult to have a CREDIBLE organization that keeps promises??? There is more than enough support, from athletes and spectators alike…. Could someone please get there shit together??????? ”

James Worke – facebook: ” It will be damn near impossible for wal to recover from this stunt ”

Carlisle Jay – facebook: ” Oh that’s it – It’s drained money-time & resources from m hundreds of people & Fucking Billionaire DICK Cancels show- Because he’s going to lose money- He canceling because someone Didn’t Buy his TV SHOW?
He could fund this out of pocket- Steve K- You rich fuck – Just PAY OUT- You Gambled You lost-
So you fuck over hundreds of People who supported you for years-

PUT A FORK IN THAT SHIT -THEY ARE DONE… ”

Jamieson Lalande – facebook: ” Wow now that’s unprofessional especially 2 weeks out pfft ”

Bill Sager – facebook: ” Do we still get the hotel discount? I already paid and am getting married there also ..F!!K u wal !!!! ”

James Worke – facebook: ” If they dont take care of these elite pullers that are gonna take a loss for this stunt, they’re done, cuz the elite wont support them after this otherwise ”

Anthony Paul Letterio – facebook: ” Like many i spent money on airfare hotel ect ”

Maateiwarangi Heta-morris – facebook: ” Fuck yous ”

Zurab Kavtaradze – facebook: ” I think and hope the UAL might step in for help like in 2013 ”

Joshua Gustin Grant – facebook: ” A group of promoters should join together and make this event happen, maybe the prize money can’t be there, but the tourney should happen!! Leonard Harkless Bill Collins Karen Mainard Bean Anthony Paul Letterio Denise Wattles ”

Jody Williams – facebook: ” I’ll say one last thing and let it go. Ya’ll need to thank Bill Collins, Denise Wattles, Leonard Harkless, Karen Mainard Bean, Frank Bean & others. These folks have been putting on tournaments for decades they’ve seen leagues come and go, and when the smoke cleared to this day they’re still putting on great tournaments. As a avid armwrestling fan and competitor……I thank you all. ”

Rick Pinkney – facebook: ” I woke up this morning with many messages about the WAL and how I should be happy that it failed. Well,, I’m not happy about it. Even though they dropped their Championship on top of the one I had been planning for over 1 1/2 years. Failure of one organization hurt all organizations.
When something like this happens it’s just bad for the sport. Friends from across Canada, the US, Europe and Australia are losing a lot of money by this cancellation. Being in the sport for as long as I have, I’ve seen this happen several times. Each time it happens it takes a toll on the next promoter that comes along. That person may have great intentions but the seeds of doubt that were planted by the previous failures will hurt them. Now this failure will really hurt the next person more than ever. Why? Because Steve was a billionaire and everyone figured those deep pockets wouldn’t do this. The fact that it was cancelled this close to the event will have lasting implications.
Just remember that when the next big one comes along and it will, do not forget about all the small promoters out there that have been busting their asses all these years to bring you even the small local events. If you’re in the US support and thank the people like Karen, Leonard, Denise and Bill and all the State directors for their hard work and dedication to the sport. In Canada we have a great bunch of Provincial directors and promoters like Perry and Joe that put on events to make this sport what it is.
We may not be in the Olympics or have million dollar pay checks but we have passion for the sport and a love of the people in it. Do not let one small set back dissuade you from continuing in the sport. If it does then you weren’t a real armwrestler to begin with. ”

Artem Toproll – facebook: ” Okay well since there is needs to be a tournament to replace, there is as well needs to be a new hammer.
Artem Toproll Classic “Cocaine n Hookers” series overall champion hammer! Proudly supported by Scott Warren Reza Dilmaghanian Mike Moore #proud #murica #undefeated ”

The schedule for Zloty Tur 2017 is posted after the info about Armfight 47. This is a bit confusing because  took place in March 2017 during Super Match 2017. I don’t know if it is just a mistake or PAL doesn’t consider anymore those matches as being ARMFIGHT #47. We’ll wait and see.

Igor Mazurenko – vk, 7 June 2017 (Google Translate):

” Armwrestling lovers will have to wait until the autumn to see the next “Star Vendetta – Armfayt №47”.
PAL has decided to hold the Star Vendetta during Zloty Tour 2017. Who we’ll see in this battle – afraid even to report in advance. I can only lift the curtain of talks, which we are, for example, with Devon Larratt who is willing to fight for a world title on his left hand. Who are with him – yet secret. Of course, what could be the Vendetta without Pushkar, Trubin, Babayev, Sasho Andreev, Todd, Bresnan ? These athletes are also likely to see “Star Vendetta – Armfayt №47» in Poland in November this year.”

Rustam Babayev won 3 categories with right arm, and 2 categories with left arm. Vazgen Soghoyan also did very good.

This results table was made by XSportNews using the official brackets / results from United States Armwrestling Association.

Rustam Babaiev is also the Overall Left Hand & Right Hand Champion at 2017 Nevada State Pro-Am Armwrestling Championship.
I asked the United States Armwrestling Association for the top 3 of the Overalls and this is the answer I received:
” The way we do a overall…..we start at the heaviest class and it is a single elimination finishing with the lightest. So for the heavyweight to win he has to beat everyone. Bottom line, there is no bracket or other placement other than the winner “

I have to say this was funny, and I believe many armwrestlers who know Sabin Badulescu are happy it happened this way (myself included). I posted both original videos at the end, scroll down.

But there are some deeper problems with this match:

1. It was a false start for Sabin Badulescu.

2. The referee let the match continue although Sabin started before the referee lifted his hands.

3. The referee not only let the match continue, but he said GO after the match already started, he was aware that Sabin Badulescu made a false start but he didn’t stop the match. I showed in the capture I made when the referee said GO.

4. It was a Referee Grip.

5. What would have happened if let’s say Sabin would had won the match ? I never was a fan of Arsen Liliev because he won many matches like this, on false start.

6. On running foul rules used by ARM WARS or WAL maybe this would have been ok, but at EuroArm we use WAF rules.

” 8.2 Referee Grip
8.2.1 Competitors have 30 seconds to “Grip Up”. If in that time, they have not gripped up, they will be given a “referee’s grip”. A referees’ grip consists of the following procedure. (2013)
8.2.2 Competitors’ hands are placed palm to palm by the referee, the thumbs are pushed down by the referee, the fingers are wrapped by the referee, first one competitor, then the other. As they are wrapped referee asks competitor if he/she wants their thumb covered or not. Thumb knuckles will be showing, forefingers level, wrists straight and arms centered. Competitors are not to move
from this set up.
8.2.3 Examples of movement are fingers re-gripping, back pressure, bending wrists, early start or elbow lifting off the pad.
8.2.4 Any movement by any competitor will result in a foul being given against the one that moves.
