In the beginning of the show, Craig Soubliere talks with Brandon Dye who broke his humerus bone via spiral fracture in 2012 and severely injured his radial nerve. If you want to follow Brandon Dye’s arm break and recovery story read these topics from northeastboard: Military Forced Retirement (14 May 2012), Help-Radial Nerve Palsy (30 May 2012), Broke Arm Update (10 July 2012), 2013 IM BACK! (3 January 2013).
Starting at 12:15, “Toddzilla” Todd Hutchings enters the show. He talks about A1 Russian Open 2014, UAL 8 – Ultimate Armwrestling League, WAL Chicago – 23 August 2014 and about the rehab after a tournament.
Because he competed in both, Toddzilla explains what are the differences between UAL – Ultimate Armwrestling League and WAL – World Armwrestling League.
From 24:00 Toddzilla talks about how he started armwrestling and about his background in armwrestling. He started armwrestling in Michigan with Karen Bean and Frank Bean’s organization AAA – American Armsport Association. He then spent about a year pulling local bars, local armwrestling tournaments all for trophies and such. And after about a year he got his first taste of what a truly national level puller feels like, when he pulled both Bill Ballinger and James Horne in a tournament. Back then his only goal in his life was just to win the Michigan State Championships. James Horne won like 6 classes then and Bill Ballinger won the rest of them, nobody was touching these guys.
Then Todd lost his job, he worked in the automotive industry, and he went to South Carolina for 10 years, and then he started touching the national level pullers and the world level pullers. There was an actual camp that had a dedicated training philosophy, the philosophy that no one else had, it was their own, it was South Carolina style practice and there he learned a lot.
After South Carolina, he spent 5 years in Utah with John Brzenk, Bob Brown and Kevin Bongard and other armwrestlers from Utah. And according to Toddzilla the most amazing thing about Utah is that even in some small tournaments for people who pull once a year, everybody knows who to armwrestle, to toproll, hook, press. Jordan Sill, Justin Green are there in Utah a lot of really good guys are there, just hovering, according to Todd Hutchings it’s easy to get up to the national level capability in about 5 years, but to make that jump up to the world level, that 5-6% takes years to develop and you never know when it’s gonna happen. There are a lot of armwrestlers in Utah ready to do that.
Now he lost his job again, and he is in Arizona (with a new job), John Brzenk came there also and they train at Eric Wolfe‘s house. According to Toddzilla Craig Soubliere has to talk with Eric Wolfe on his Arm Wrestling Nation Radio, because Eric has a garage if anybody ever conceived, thought of, mentioned, drawn or yet to have thought of an armwrestling training contraption machine or device Eric has it. 🙂
From 28:10 Toddzilla talks about his training off the table, because John Brzenk and other armwrestlers are 3,5-4 hours driving away from him in Arizona. His training strategies didn’t really change in his last 14 years. When Shawn Lattimer started armwrestling after his records from powerlifting, Toddzilla connected with him on linkedin, “which is facebook for nerds” – Toddzilla’s words. 🙂
I wrote only about a small part of the show, there are many other interesting topics, please listen to the recorded show below.

Devon Larratt talks about the reasons he joined WAL – World Armwrestling League. Devon also believes in Steve Kaplan – WAL Founder & President, he believes that Steve will gonna make magical things happen in the sport.
Devon also talks about the new format of WAL, which will be tested at WAL Chicago – 23 August 2014. In this new tournament format if you ever duck / lay down, or lose a match you will fight for 3rd and 4th place. There will be 2 pools which will gonna be seeded, the brackets will be seeded by Josh Handeland. The 2 pools will be played in the standard double elimination tournament in which you will progress until you got into the semifinal. There you will get 2 guys that are undefeated in each pool on the – A side, and they will have a supermatch from which it will be determined the 1st and the 2nd place. The armwrestlers from each pool who lost a match but they got to the semifinal in – B side, they will have a supermatch for the 3rd and 4th place.
Devon Larratt talks about his right arm. His right arm is stronger now than he was at WAL Las Vegas, but Devon expects it will be 2 more years until before he can say he is 100%, and he will not remember having surgery. But he is now fully willing to commit 100% to armwrestling as hard as he can in a tournament or in a supermatch, he is past the point where he fears re-injuring himself. He still has some spots where he is not fully comfortable and balanced, but he will get there and it will come a day when he will be again the best armwrestler in the world right handed.
Next Devon talks about VIDEO: Devon Larratt vs. Christian Binnie, +226 lbs LEFT FINAL │ WAL Las Vegas. He considers Christian Binnie 3rd top armwrestler in North America after him and Travis Bagent.
Craig Soubliere asked Devon about his decision to enter the 225 lbs class at WAL Chicago – 23 August 2014. Devon explains that for the last 15 years he ate as much as he could all the time, because he wanted to be as massive and strong as possible. He ate even more before a tournament, he wanted to stop, but he pushed himself. He normally weighs 235 lbs, and after WAL Las Vegas he started eating but not to a point where his guts are ripping apart. Devon made a joke about his wife Jodi Wood Larratt having a thing for Alexey Voevoda, because she started to eat raw food and no meat like him. 🙂
Devon still eats meat when he goes out, but in the house they eat raw vegetables all the time, and the weight flew out of him. During this interview Devon said he is already 225 lbs and he noticed no impact on the strength.

Travis Bagent talks about WAL Chicago – 23 August 2014, where Travis will be the tournament director, and about the new format that will be tried out in Chicago.
There are 3 top level athletes that have big changes to win their classes:
- 1. Dave Chaffee will compete and probably win the +226 lbs class;
- 2. Devon Larratt will compete in the -225 lbs class (he is currently ~227 lbs, and there are 47 competitors right now in that class);
- 3. Todd Hutchings will compete in the -195 lbs class.
- In the -165 lbs class there will be fighting for the no. 1 spot: Allen Fisher, Geoff “The HaleRaiser” Hale, Janis Amolins, Ethan Fritsche, Luke Kindt.
We also find out from Travis that Steve Kaplan – the CEO and founder of WAL – World Armwrestling League turned out TV deals that seemed amazing for Travis, but the fact is that Steve is in for the right TV deal for WAL, he is working super hard at it and it’s only a matter of time before there will be announced the entire ramification for the 2015 year.
Craig Soubliere asked Travis if the one match (out of 5) he lost with Chop at VIDEOS: Travis Bagent vs. Matt “Chop” Bertrand │16 August 2014 was for real or if it was acting. Travis said that it was for real because Chop is the second best armwrestler in North America, he can beat Devon Larratt, Christian Binnie, Craig Soubliere and anyone else in North America except for Travis Bagent. 🙂
For the ones asking if Travis Bagent is acting, Travis said that he is acting everyday of his life, he is acting like him. 🙂

Devon Larratt talks about the 2014 Australian Tour, armwrestling training, rehab after injury, tendonitis and other armwrestling topics.
Devon said he is learning to armwrestle all over again with his right arm, because he is still recovering after the injury and the surgery he had at the right elbow. His right arm doesn’t feel like it is the same arm it was before, at practice other armwrestlers told him his arm feels like Swiss cheese – “it definitely has some holes, but there’s still some cheese there” :). He still has a lot of mental barriers that he has to break down for the right arm. He believes it will be a time span of years until he will be able to say his right arm it is where it was before (2010 or so). But Devon doesn’t plan to stop pulling, and he imagines that his right arm will evolve into a different thing, something good.
Devon Larratt said his left arm feels Mega, the left arm never ever felt better in his entire armwrestling career. He calls it the “new right”. He wants to pull an event with his left arm. He wants to pull (left arm) Denis Cyplenkov, Christian Binnie, Wagner Bortolato. Devon asked any promoter to call him if he wants to set it up.
Devon says he loves Game of Arms, and the fact that the show will make people (non-armwrestlers) like armwrestling as they fall in love with the storyline. And only after that people will be ready to be introduced to big armwrestling leagues like UAL – Ultimate Armwrestling League, ARM WARS, PAL – Professional Armwrestling League.
Craig Soubliere asked Devon if something even came close to anything with a big armwrestling league. Devon replied that he doesn’t want to be restricted at this time, and this is why he hesitated to sign with Robert Drenk and Bill Collins from the UAL – Ultimate Armwrestling League, although he loves what they are doing. Devon said he tried to get Denis Cyplenkov with the help of Neil Pickup from ARM WARS, or with the help of PAL – Professional Armwrestling League, but it didn’t work out yet.
Devon said that although there is a lot of talk about the Top 16 tournament, his honest opinion is that he doesn’t even feel that it will happen.
Devon said he doesn’t have anything 100% concrete planned yet, but admitted it his fault as well because he is hard to be nailed down sometimes. To forget the frustration of not being able to get on a major armwrestling event, he tries to stay focused on the reason he came into this sport: because he enjoys armwrestling, he didn’t came to be paid, he didn’t came to be famous. He is cool with pooling into his garage until 75, if there’s all it is. 🙂 But he certainly want to do more.
Next Devon talks about the Ottawa High Hookers – which became a very strong armwrestling team has became and the fact that some of them will have Super Matches at 2014 MIKE GOULD CLASSIC.

Craigand Sara Soubliere – facebook: ” Gold and Silver in my last AM class at UAL 6 today. Didn’t do as good as I wanted to in the Pro class but it was a great experience pulling in 4 classes today. It was great seeing everyone again and great meeting some new friends. I can’t tell you how much I love this sport and how honored and excited I’m to be apart of it. I’m so focused and pumped up to be back to training and I’m going to work even hard to make improvements but for now I’m just going to soak up this whole experience.”

Source ► Jeff Janes – facebook: ” Craigand Sara Soubliere vs. JeffandAndrea Janes. First two pulls I had hand control and he fouled giving me the win. Ref grip, slipped, then straps. As I rotated his hand I dropped and got fouled for “shoulder below in losing position” (lame because I wasn’t trying to hang in a kings move, I was rotating his wrist in a continual motion that was only stopped by the ref even though I saw it several times yesterday) Last go I was gassed and not ready and Craig got the best of me. Until next time. 😉 “
