Hi everyone! Today is the 8th of September 2015.
My friend is flying in today
He and I, know each other very well
I’ve been waiting for this moment for a long time

I thought we would meet on his territory, but he flew over here to Kaliningrad

I’m not going to tell you who it is, just yet
I will tell you about him in the car
We are all going to the airport
Still driving towards the airport

I would like to say a couple of words about this person

Whom I’m going to meet

I met and befriended him about a year ago, during filming for a tv project

A unique person
He is strong naturally
And has a strong character
I am happy to be meeting him here in Kaliningrad
I think, many have already guessed who he is
He is not a weightlifter
But a living sporting legend
He competed during the Olympics in Sochi in 2014
Triumphed and won two gold medals

In addition, he is also a nine time world champion in a non-olympic sport (arm wrestling)

He lives a non-orthodox life in terms of diet, he is a vegetarian

I think by know you guessed who he is
We will see him a little later
Onwards to the airport

They said that by 2018 this will be a super airport

Currently it’s just an airport

Dmitriy: How was your flight?

Alexey Voevoda: Great!

Alexey Voevoda two time Olympic bobsled champion and nine time world arm wrestling champion

Alexey: Have a look

Alexey: this is not all. randat – side lateral jump over the pommelhorse

Dmitiry: what’s the name of the project?

Alexey: gymnastics with stars

Alexey: remember how we wanted to learn to break dance? I have actually just learned to do a backward flip

Alexey: the knee is alright at the moment

Alexey: but it does not bend fully

Alexey: only hurts when I jump

Alexey: otherwise, the lift off is good

Alexey: recieved the injury due to not landing properly

Alexey: during training I lift weights which even I sometimes question

Alexey: there are guys who inject etc, but still don’t do as much weight

Alexey: they do not recover as fast as me

Alexey: healthiest possible diet – definitely vegan.

Alexey: healthy thinking – that’s more important

Alexey: I am not trying to persuade any one to do it

Alexey:everyone just looks at me funny because I don’t eat meat

Alexey: think I’m part of a sect, not I am not part of a sect, just a rationally thinking person

Alexey: On the flight, I opened the menu and saw a big shrimp

Alexey: a live creature, destroyed and killed

Alexey: poor shrimp, I couldn’t understand how you can possibly eat it

Alexey: but seven years ago I used to eat them by the kilogram.

Alexey: did not think about it once

Alexey: the principle is when you start thinking about your diet, breathing, walking and training

Alexey: this analysis will enalbe you to use your abilities more effectively

Alexey: I have redone all of my training plans

Alexey: you can only grow through pain, strengthening joints – pain

Alexey: strengthening bones – pain.
Alexey: this is how the real strength is formed

Alexey: look at male gorillas, they are huge, strong and are vegans.

Alexey: they eat nothing else besides plant based foods

Alexey: they can rip you apart with their hands, they have huge deltoids and 60cm biceps

Alexey: one thing is they have a large stomach due to constant process of fermentation, no fat is present

Alexey: they have a living microflora, ongoing process of fermentation and synthesis

Alexey: if humans have 1.5kg of micro flora than the gorilla has 10kg and it synthesises all the required materials

Alexey: A fully operation bio laboratory

Alexey: besides this micro flora synthesises all the amino acids required by the body

Alexey: In other words substances that have been adapted to your organism

Alexey: everything is consumed at 100% no loss occurs.

Alexey: No tumours or other bad stuff will happen to you

Alexey: As soon as you start consuming animal products, which have foreign hormones present will lead to hormonal imbalance

Alexey: so if the person is adequate and understands those moments, then you can train without “juice”

Dmitiry: Karneliya Mango wrote to me the other day
D: Saying that I’ve lost weight
Alexey: Dim you look much better

Alexey: you used to be as big as a pig, didn’t suit you, now you look much better

Alexey: Like a good civilised slav.
Alexey: I think that fat is a pathogen
D: from where health problems take root

Alexey: if you understand what is protein, protein is not absorbed by the organism

Alexey: It absorbs mono amino acids – broken down protein

Alexey: during the protein break down, around 80% are toxins – amiac, tinol and other acidic elements

Alexey: so animal protein has 80% of those acids

Alexey: plant protein have about 40% of those acids.

Alexey: so by eating meat you harm yourself
-Alexey, do you eat eggs, tvorog “goat cheese”?
Alexey: No I do not

Alexey: During the first four years as a vegan did not eat it, now as a vegetarian I can eat things like bread

Alexey: Now I eat non-yeast bread

Alexey: I do not follow a strict diet and allow a cheat meal now and then

– Alcohol?
Alexey: No I do not drink at all

Alexey: event the best wine at the end of the day is still ethanol

D: Recently we had a creative session here, training on top of the highest building in Kaliningrad

D: We took all the equipment with us: bars, plates etc. The entire city is on your palm

D: Here I ran with the 2014 Olympic torch
/ D: here on the dunes
D: madam, please listen to Alexey’s order carefull
Alexey: fresh fruit salad
A: creme soup with mushrooms
A: some porridge with vegetables

A: And two jugs of fresh juice – orange, apple and carrot.

To us!
Very tasty, perfect proportions
A: I often here a lot of bullshit about food
A: Like you can not digest carrots without oil

– what I like about bobsled is how deceivingly difficult it is

A: Any sport is difficult, event darts – flight trajectory specifics

– any professional sportsman understand this

-as for collagen for strengthening joints, its noting, as everything in the stomach becomes an amino acid

A:-collagen is a protein, protein is made up of amino acids, to create collagen you require amino acids

A: if the organism requires collagen, then it will synthesise it from the correct foods

– from food supplements I think you should only take amino acids.

A: Yes I agree pretty much everything is pointless fore recovery besides BCAA

A: my friend owns a supplement store and says that people tend to buy more protein (even though it does not work)

Polivitamins, BCAA are the best
around 20 to 30 grams of BCAA should e enough

once you remove dairy products form your diet, you will see an increase in endurance

it’s hard for me to remove them as I grew up on them

still a mix up in diet for health and competing athletes is important

A: I disagree about the quantity of food

A: If you train loads, eat loads but spread the meals over the day

A: this kind of food digests for 40min in the stomach where it ferments

A: the food is then absorbed onto the intestine
A: in the stomach it just breaks down

A: and of you eat loads at once the digestion will be slow and incomplete

A: A-eat right, b- in right quantity, c – eat more often

– what’s in your diet
A: vegetables , juices and smoothies

-what about proteins, aminos where do you get them from?

A: you haven’t understood my system

A: Our microflora synthesises everything we require

A: high concentration of protein can be founds in nuts and feta cheese

A: we don’t need to much of at anyway, we can only put on 3kg of pure muscles per year

A: the rest is water and fat

– bodybuilders stick with 2gr. of protein per 1kg of mass per day, whats your opinion on it?

A: I definitely do not follow it
A: I base it on how I feel

A: right now I am eating and enjoying it, that’s healthy

A: What quantity? I eat until the feeling of active hunger disappears

A: Don’t overeat
A: we can out eat each other from hunger
A: It’s better not to eat if you are not hungry

A: when you become a vegetarian, and begin to comparing your results form before and after, I am sure you will see some improvements

A: After seven months my strength increased

A: before I used to do lunges at 240kg and now at 320kg.

A: I have for sure become stronger and can also breath with a full chest

– do you take any supplements?

/ A: during winter I take vegetarian amino acids and vitamins

D: Your appetite awakens when outside

A: Your digestion speed increases that is why you get hungry outside in the nature as oppose to a city.

A: all metabolic processes are slower in the city as oppose to nature.

A: cam to nature, had a walk and enjoyed ourselves
A: also increased testosterone levels
A: and you want to sing, eat and dance

D: just going to finish eating and time for a dance

A: Thank you, this was very tasty.

Todd Hutchings and Brandon Dye on Arm Wrestling Nation Radio - 25 August 2014

INTERVIEWS: Todd Hutchings and Brandon Dye on Arm Wrestling Nation Radio │ 25 August 2014

In the beginning of the show,  talks with  who broke his humerus bone via spiral fracture in 2012 and severely injured his radial nerve. If you want to follow Brandon Dye’s arm break and recovery story read these topics from northeastboard: Military Forced Retirement (14 May 2012), Help-Radial Nerve Palsy (30 May 2012), Broke Arm Update (10 July 2012), 2013 IM BACK! (3 January 2013).

Starting at 12:15, “Toddzilla”  enters the show. He talks about  and about the rehab after a tournament.

Because he competed in both, Toddzilla explains what are the differences between  and .

From 24:00 Toddzilla talks about how he started armwrestling and about his background in armwrestling. He started armwrestling in Michigan with  and Frank Bean’s organization . He then spent about a year pulling local bars, local armwrestling tournaments all for trophies and such. And after about a year he got his first taste of what a truly national level puller feels like, when he pulled both  and  in a tournament. Back then his only goal in his life was just to win the Michigan State Championships. James Horne won like 6 classes then and Bill Ballinger won the rest of them, nobody was touching these guys.

Then Todd lost his job, he worked in the automotive industry, and he went to South Carolina for 10 years, and then he started touching the national level pullers and the world level pullers. There was an actual camp that had a dedicated training philosophy, the philosophy that no one else had, it was their own, it was South Carolina style practice and there he learned a lot.

After South Carolina, he spent 5 years in Utah with ,  and  and other armwrestlers from Utah. And according to Toddzilla the most amazing thing about Utah is that even in some small tournaments for people who pull once a year, everybody knows who to armwrestle, to toproll, hook, press.  are there in Utah a lot of really good guys are there, just hovering, according to Todd Hutchings it’s easy to get up to the national level capability in about 5 years, but to make that jump up to the world level, that 5-6% takes years to develop and you never know when it’s gonna happen. There are a lot of armwrestlers in Utah ready to do that.

Now he lost his job again, and he is in Arizona (with a new job),  came there also and they train at ‘s house. According to Toddzilla  has to talk with Eric Wolfe on his Arm Wrestling Nation Radio, because Eric has a garage if anybody ever conceived, thought of, mentioned, drawn or yet to have thought of an armwrestling training contraption machine or device Eric has it. 🙂

From 28:10 Toddzilla talks about his training off the table, because John Brzenk and other armwrestlers are 3,5-4 hours driving away from him in Arizona. His training strategies didn’t really change in his last 14 years. When  started armwrestling after his records from powerlifting, Toddzilla connected with him on linkedin, “which is facebook for nerds” – Toddzilla’s words. 🙂

I wrote only about a small part of the show, there are many other interesting topics, please listen to the recorded show below.

Check out this Monday night on AWNR Todd Hutchings action starts at 8pm est.

Engin Terzi vs. Bill Frank - Pulling after the 1998 WAF World Armwrestling Championships

VIDEO: Engin Terzi vs. Bill Frank │Pulling after 1998 WAF World Armwrestling Championships

Engin Terzi: this was after 1998 WAF..i was 60kg..the other guy is Bill Frank who was silver medalist in 80kg.. did the same thing to Kote Razmadze, who was silver medalist in 80kg after Europeans 1998..Neil Neil Pickup was there as well..not sure if he remembers or not..GOD is my witness that i didnt even know anything of supplement or of the diet that an athlete should have (protein ,carbs etc)..just trained and pulled..

some may think that this could happen only after the event but it wasnt the case..for one example i beat Jason Remer about 15 times in US events even when i was pulling multiple classes..he has beat many guys including John, Michael Selerais etc..in 2000 WAF he took silver in 85kg.. this event happenned a few months before 2000 WAF..Men’s Right Hand 70kg : 1st – Roger Nowatzke, 2nd – Mark Ziertman, 3rd – Jim Larson
Men’s Right Hand 80kg : 1st – Engin Terzi, 2nd – Kevin Harris, 3rd – John Gunsch
Men’s Right Hand 90kg : 1st – Engin Terzi, 2nd – Jason Remer, 3rd – Omer Bennurkan
Men’s Right Hand 90+kg : 1st – Rett Houdek, 2nd – Omer Bennurkan, 3rd – Mike Doppenberg
Men’s Left Hand 75kg : 1st – Engin Terzi, 2nd – Jim Larson, 3rd – Mark Ziertman
Men’s Left Hand 90kg : 1st – Engin Terzi, 2nd – Jason Remer, 3rd – Chad Hauger
Men’s Left Hand 90+kg : 1st – Rett Houdek, 2nd – Matt Mackey, 3rd – Tom Bartley

all i just try to say is that you can win Worlds by being natural..i have done it.. you can too..today after these new laboratories your chances is even higher than yesterday..i dont understand why people are disturbed by me saying this..

if they believe that they cant then they are limiting themselves..let me repeat again..new test can detect stuff up to 3-4 months.. which means people can not touch them..even if they touch then they will not be able to keep gains for 3-4 months..so your chance today is higher..this should be a great motivation for anyone who is naturally training and pulling..

i feel sorry for everyone who never used stuff but kept competing by hoping to win..so the last doping test results is not only about 12 athletes..its about everyone who use stuff but was lucky enough to not to be tested on that day..the day that doping results were declared was the day that natural athletes should have different kind of hopes in our sport..i am not pointing anyone as being natural or none natural, including myself..i am just making general statements..today you have more chances to place higher than yesterday as long as the samples keep being sent to same laboratory from now on..

Neil Pickup YES YOU CAN WIN NATURALLY. I have also done it & I KNOW that it can be done.

Ievgenii Prudnyk is an actor-singer at Kiev National Academic Theatre of Operetta, and he is another vegetarian armwrestler whose diet doesn’t include meat.
This year he plans to compete at:  /  /

Original article – IronWorld.ru │ Google Translate:

” Today the “Iron World” would like to introduce you to an athlete whose performance at the European Championships in 2013 can be called sensational. That he was able to win on his right hand in the 85 kg class armsportsmenom strongest over the world – Rustam Babaev. Ten consecutive years of losses Rustam did not know at the European championships. And found a competitor who challenged and defeated Rustam. It appeared to be his countryman and teammate Evgeni Prudnyk (Ukraine), in which we interviewed.

IRON WORLD: Eugene, how you came to armsport? How did your training? Who is your coach?
Eugene Prudnyk: First there was the Metallurgical Academy … the competitions between departments. I was invited to participate, and I agreed. Competitions were held without weight categories among people who had no idea about armsportu. I looked at a seven foot big man weighing 120 kg and dropped a phrase: “I think I know who will be first!” But my friend interrupted me: “You’re wrong! This guy will be the first, “and pointed to one participant, who in all respects inferior to this big man. Of course, I did not believe it and was looking forward to their duel. And indeed, when they met, the forecast was justified. I still did not know any technique, and from the outside it seemed incredible spectacle while this big guy was yelling and shaking with tension, unrelenting champion with a smile revealed his fingers “top”. I was surprised by this fight, but I thought it was probably just a big man weak. But when I saw the secret struggle, the sport became an enigma: the champion tried to keep two hands, but it was useless. I could not believe it, but it was true! No one could, even with both hands, put this man. His name is Dennis Shustik, later he became my first coach. He really Ukrainian champion and winner of Europe. And he also studied at the Academy of Metallurgical and decided, so to speak, to play around with amateurs.
As for me, I also never lost. The fact that the competitions were held for some unknown to me already and I have not met with Shustik or so husky.
After these events in my head did not come out armsport, and I decided to try it.
I myself tried to Dnepropetrovsk city competitions for juniors, when I was 17 years old. Without training and knowledge of equipment, I won 1st place at the right hand and the 2nd – on the left.
A month later, again without any preparations, went to the regional competitions for juniors and it took third place on his right hand. Then a month later followed by “Ukraine” Junior, where I took third place on the left. After that, I was even more breathtaking competitions and I started training. In the future, my coach was Vladislav Starokon, he showed me a lot of good exercises, some of them I carry to this day.
Now my coach is Vladimir Petrenko. I am infinitely grateful for the help and support he has provided me. I hope that in the future I will be even more pleasing his own achievements.

JM: Make a list of your most important titles and ranks.
EP:
It is not important titles and ranks. For me the important decent, bright, colorful and professional wrestling.

JM: At the European Championships – 2013’re on the right hand has won gold in the struggle with himself Rustam Babaev, who had ten consecutive years, had lesions in the struggle for European gold. And you fought before? Your emotions and impressions of the final match?
EP:
Of course, when I won, very happy, because you want to not only participate, but to win, especially since I was struggling with an excellent athlete, a true professional. Yes, we fought before, because competing in the same weight class.

JM: What’s your main rivals on the world stage?
EP:
I respect each of his opponent, and I think that we are all human, and everyone can win as well as lose. For me, even there is no such thing as a “rival”, and when I fight, it does not regard it as a war, but as a game. I just like to fight and be a part of arm wrestling. Every competition brings me new knowledge, questions, discoveries and experiences. I am glad that I can grow and develop in the sport.

JM: Tell me about your diet, there are some special diet?
EP:
Special diets do not stick, except that I do not eat meat. Of them feel the weight, and in general do not like meat. It would seem a paradox, but without it I have a good appetite, can only eat a lot and often. I decided to do an experiment on himself and I feel that it suits me, and then – let’s see. I try not to pollute your body with junk such as chips, crackers, coca-cola food “McDonald’s”, etc. I do not smoke and do not drink. My one weakness – it is sweet.

JM: What is your favorite exercise in armsportu? Your weight in the off-season, drove before the competition?
EP:
All my favorite exercises, because each of them is like a nut in the overall system. Exercise a lot, but of course, I have set priorities and exercise basic – power – and more accurate, ie technical. I aspire to the ideal form, but always, when I come to the competition, I feel that not enough this and that. As a result, the ideal form to which I aspire, is not yet reached, but I think that in the future everything will be.
My weight is always equal to about 87 kg, is reset to 85.

JM: Have you ever had the desire to quit watching armsportu?
EP:
At first it was, and very often, but when the desire arose, I won. That is, so I say to myself, so everything is the last event in which I participate, and go to another sport, and for some reason this competition is necessary to win, and everything was cool. Then I grasped it, and I started to train even more.

JM: Do you ever had to radically change something in your life?
EP:
At first, I was in the Metallurgical Academy as an engineer and was planning to go to work at the factory, but then, in the summer, thanks to my parents, at sea, we started a business called “karaoke”. There I felt raspelsya and a vocal talent, but to me it lacked expression, ie, filing, acting. So I decided to work on it, but nothing worked. Then, perhaps, fate brought or completely by chance, I got to play “Romeo and Juliet” in the walls of the Dnepropetrovsk Theater and Arts College. The director of this production Gregory Feodosievich Bogomaz-Babi. I loved how the students were playing, and I realized that there is much to teach. I believe their game and never for a moment doubted that. After the performance I went up to him and asked if I could at my age, and when I was 21, and learn to do it on the course. He said that just this year, picking up a course for training. I decided to try and do that. Then he studied in parallel on two daytime divisions. In Metallurgical Academy – the fifth year, and in the college’s theater – on the ground. We had to pass here and there. And to make ends meet was very hard, but I succeeded. I finished the first course almost perfectly, and diploma on a well-defended. I slept for four hours a day. After that, I realized that the man is capable of anything, you only need to aim. I’m radically changed in their lives and seriously engaged in theater work. At first it was a lot of dead ends, and seemed desperate situations, but in this case I helped arm wrestling. He supported me as a person. In a short time I have achieved success in their studies, he began to feel a partner, the scene has learned to act, to find images and fittings. In the end I finished DTHK in “Actor”.

JM: Where do you work? The work does not interfere with training?
EP:
I work at the Kiev National Academic Theatre of Operetta actor-singer. Perfectly combines sport and work. The fact that I’m the kind of person who needs a change of heart and action. Laid out at work – go and enjoy a work-out, respectively, distracted from work, rest of it. Next rest of reinforcement at work and so on. Special thanks to our artistic director of the theater Bogdan Dmitrievichu Strutinskii for understanding. He lets me go to the main event, despite the heavy workload in the theater. So I’m doing a great job with the work and the preparation for championships.

JM: What’s your sport plans for 2013?
EP:
I plan to participate in the tournament A1, go to the World Cup and Nemiroff.

JM: What is your biggest challenge in the sport that you set for yourself?
EP:
Self-knowledge. I do know yourself, explore, try yourself for strength, walking the razor’s edge. Each competition – this is a test.

JM: Do you think that men are the most important thing to do in life?
EP:
In my opinion, the most important thing for a man – be a man in any situation. And then – to build a house, plant a tree, raise a son and become the undisputed champion of the world!

In this interview from 2013, Alexey Voevoda talks about his diet / nutrition, about being a vegetarian / vegan. Alexey tells us about his childhood and rope climbing. He also gives some details about his right shoulder injury from bobsleigh – at a speed of 130km/h, and how armwrestling saved him because he stopped with only one hand (left hand). His return to armwrestling after the Sochi 2014 is also mentioned in the video interview. At the end of the video he smashes a coconut into a Kettlebellwith his right hand.

Alexey Voevoda 2013 (with subtitles)

You’ll be surprized

Alexey Voevoda, who is three-time World champion in armwrestling,
two-time Winter Olympics medalist in bobsleigh, eat very unusually

Many top-models would be envious his diet

“In the morning I have 2 glass of water”

“In the afternoon I have vegetables”

“In the evening I have fruits, vegetables. mixed vegetable food”

He doesn’t eat any kind of meat and almost doesn’t eat heat-treated food

He has been raw vegetarian for 2 years

Meanwhile he is still one of the strongest bobsledder

His height is 194 cm and weight is 118 kg

These parameters are shocking

“On Monday I drink only water, without any sort of food”

“And I feel very good”

Even on Monday he trains

He can’t exist without exercise stress

He used to be strong

“I grew up in the mountains and we sometimes climbed trees”

“I usually won in that competition”

“When I was 8-9 year old I pulled up 15-17 times”

“Although other children couldn’t pull up at all”

Recently he realized that he is ‘man of steel’

“The track wasn’t good and there was a rise”

“I unclasped my hand to stop. Then I was
thrown and hit my shoulder on the ceiling”

“The speed was 130 km/h. My arm growed numb”

“But armwrestling saved me. I stopped with only one hand”

“It might be more serious, but I had only incomplete fracture. It’s rubbish”

Even with incomplete fracture he can do it

This exercise helped him in armwrestling. Now he
still do this exercise in each train

After Sochi-2014 he decided left bobsleigh and return in armwrestling

“I can’t forgive armwrestling and there will be comeback”

“My level is quite high. But today my
power isn’t the same as Cyplenkov’s power”

“However some part of my body is still strong, like forearm”

Seeing on bogatyr-Voevoda’s strength of body [bogatyr is strong hero in Russia]

Our camera crew solved to do experiment

Called ‘cocoanut’

His goal is to break cocoanut

Considering Alexey’s physical injury we gave him weight

“We checked that armwlestler’s short move can break cocoanut”

He broke, smashed, crashed coconut

Our reporter can’t do it. He actually isn’t armwlestler

Voevoda is rare and valuable athlete not only in Russia, but in the World

He was the best in armwrestling and became world champion in bobsleigh

It can do true Russian bogatyr — Alexey Voevoda

Man: Alexey, I read in interview that you’re vegetarian
Yes, I don’t eat meat at all
Man: How does your diet influence for recreation?
It’s good for my recreation
Man: Why?
Protein causes of decomposition in our body. It’s axiom
Man: Animal protein?
Any protein. Do you know a decay product of protein?
Man: Amino acids
Amino acids are one little part of decay product of protein. Amino acids depend on quality of protein.
Decays products of protein are always BUN, ammonia, thinol and other toxics.
It’s nutrition for harmful microflora (pathogenic bacteria). This harmful microflora is the cause of decomposition.
Read academician A.M. Ugolev. 1991. The theory of adequate specific nutrition.
He investigated microflora (gut flora) and he tried to separate microflora as individual member of the body.
When our microflora is healthy it should weigh 2.5-3.5 kg. Microflora produce amino acids, hormones.
It’s clever biochemical machine that allow us to be healthy and happy.
I’ve gone on Kremlyevskay diet (little carbohydrates, much protein), meat diet, milk diet, drank many protein cocktails.
I experimented with diet a lot. But I started running and doing Barbell Lunge forward, laterad and circle-wise very effective after raw vegetarian diet.
When I ate meat, supplement amino acids, creatine, minerals I did Barbell Lunge forward, laterad and circle-wise 220 kg. I lacked of energy.
When I stopped eating meat I did 320 kg without amino acids, vitamins, minerals.
I just eat vegetables and fruits. Easy. I forget the stomach pain.
Man: Without milk?
At first I ate fermented milk product and drank milk. Then I stopped.
Man: Are you vegan?
Yes, I am.
Man: Do you eat cooked food?
No. Of course not.
Man: Do you eat kasha[cereal, five-grain porridge, polenta etc.]?
In the winter I need to do the correction my nutrition and I eat kasha.
But in the summer we have opportunity to eat fresh vegetables and fruits and to be raw vegans. Just try it.
I encourage a healthy lifestyle. Maybe you like it. I liked it. My sister became pregnant after raw vegan diet.
My coach on this diet, aged 65 years, did overhead press on smith machine 120 kg.
Man: Everybody say that you should eat much meat and consume sport nutrition to recreation faster.
I explain you. Compare alimentary system of predator, weed-eater and us. Who do we look like?
Our jaw chews the food. Our jaw can’t bite off flesh.
Comparing with predator and weed-eater we have different alimentary system.
Sorry
We aren’t predator and weed-eater.
We are frugivore. Fruit have high caloric value.
Bald man with a beard: go away please!
I don’t lose weight. Weight which you need you don’t lose.
Man: Do you eat fish?
I don’t eat fish.
Bald man with a beard: I was 152 kg. I looked like a perfect fright. I gasped for breath on 40th seconds. My punch was like a push.
Bald man with a beard: I eat a little meat. I think when you’re young there is a sense to eat meat to gain in the weight.
Bald man with a beard: But when you grow old you should look after your health.
Bald man with a beard: You ought to be careful with this nutrition. And if you choose this diet you should have medical education or good coach.
I consulted with academic.
Bald man with a beard: Experiments with health aren’t good. Alexey have good education. Trial and error isn’t for your healthy. Time’s up!
Thank you. Good bye!

Superhuman: Super Strong (2008) │TV DOCUMENTARY

A documentary featuring Travis Bagent, Devon Larratt, Benedikt Magnússon and others:

Jackson Booth-Millard’s review │ Superhuman: Super Strong │ imdb.com:

“After seeing world’s tallest and smallest people, and geniuses (mostly young), I was interested in seeing one about people with unusually high physical strength. Basically this documentary, narrated by Sam Hazeldine, takes a look into the lives of some extraordinary individuals and what they go through to achieve their amazing raw power. We see Welsh bodybuilder Flex Lewis who sticks to a diet of five fish a day and constantly develops his bulging muscles. The life of Ukrainian circus strongman Uri Akulova is explored, as he has trains his teenage daughter Varya to become a record breaking power lifter, as well as three year old sister Barbi lifting weights, oh and wife Larisa. Also, Ed Byrne (no, not the comedian), with his alter ego the “Thug”, is a black belt king of karate who can smash his hand through nine solid concrete plates. Then we see the world’s strongest couple, British Gemma Taylor and Icelandic husband Benedikt Magnusson as they await the birth of their baby boy, and wonder if he will be a strong baby. Finally, champion arm wrestler Travis ‘The Beast’ Bagent from West Virginia, USA, is seen as he attempts to beat his opponents, mainly in Manchester against Canadian champion Devon Larratt. Good!”

Devon Larratt
Devon Larratt │ Image Source

Devon Larratt – northeastboard.com:

” I think this is a very interesting thread, and i feel that this is a time in history where perhaps preformance enhancing medications will get some light shed on them. I feel that during my life these medications have been somewhat of a taboo subject, but as time goes on, people get braver, and the amount of evidence that piles up makes the entire community curious and want open discussion and information.
I believe that testing is a massive issue in armwrestling. Most people start down the road of physical/strength/health improvement and it leads them to armwrestling or some other activity. Armwrestling at a high competitive level is NOT healthy… for many reasons.. but it doesn;t stop us from doing it. THe modern question i believe is … 1) if you do this activity are you actually going to be healthier if you use medications? (like after a car crash) 2) How does one put in a testing plan that actually works. financially and is effective. and is this what the sport needs?

More back to the topic, since i heard my name.
I am a natural athlete. What i have done can be accomplished without medicines. at about 18-19 years i was a very hungry very very skinny 205. my first 2 tournaments i cut to the 198 lb class. I shortly afterwards got a unique job that gave me 2 interesting nutritional plans. sometimes it is an all you can eat buffet every meal, and then for long periods of time you are way under caloried and way depleted. as soon as i got this job i went to 220-225 lbs. i stayed at this weight for a few years, dieting down to 220 for most tournaments. this became harder, and i started to go after heavy weights anyways, so it crept with time to 230 235 and then i was done going after the weight class 220.
During this time frame (ages 20 – 34 about) i was focused on gaining size and strength. I would at times get to eat all i wanted, i would always eat a massive meal before bedtime. I would use creatine monohydrate before most competitions or a period of 3 to 6 weeks. i have used other supplements – vasodialtors, amminos, protien, but i think for the most part creatine is the only one that made any real difference. so you could say that at 21 yrs i was a ripped up 225 lb guy who was very healthy, at about 25-26 i was 235 very healthy, and i was able to get my weight to settle at 240ish for the rest of my life so far. with intense trainning, limitless calories, and creatine i was able to get to 253 lbs for a short time (i think i was a bit fat). the heaviest i ever competed was 247 against John Brzenk i think i was 33, i normally compete around 240-45, depending on how much food and how much trainning i can get.

I am drug tested periodically, but i have never been tested for competition. I have said before that i am willing to test at any time, competition or not. I think it would be a good thing for the sport.
It is a great step that the WAF is testing. Unfortunatley for many athletes, financially speaking the WAF is a completely unresponsible choice…. provincials, nationals, worlds, all unpaid, expenses, time off.. if your country doesn;t recognise the sport and you go… in my opinion.. your crazy. Countries need to get armwrestling recognized and their athletes taken care of.

to summarize – I don;t have any great answers. I am not a promoter, i do not fully understand their struggles and their responsibilities. I do feel as an athlete if you armwrestle at a high level your body will pay for your fun one way or another. THe bigger the match, the bigger the glory the bigger the pain. you can reach the top clean, but you will hurt. maybe more than the guy who takes medicine, maybe less in other ways, either way.. it would be great if some doctors really took a good un biased look at what we do. “

Devon Larratt – northeastboard.com:

” Sorry Las for the slow response. Just a tired dude sometimes, and takes me a while to get back.
I;ll just hit my opinion 2 things
1) on weight gain/protein retention/non specific excrecise (ie crossfit or anything not armwrestling related). Like Curtis said, i think your body can only retain x amount of protien. with hard trainning/nutrition whatever you can can increase your retention. which means more strength. for the most part, armwrestlers don’t care about the protien they are retaining outside of their armwrestling chains. This becomes limited by your nature/lifestyle, and i believe by your balance. I believe that your body will not let you fall too far out of balance. If you work opposing muscle groups, bring balance to the body by working legs you will obviously hold more muscle, and i believe your body then allow you build more muscle in the chains you want. this – in a taper is even more compounded, because i believe your organs can build up enough steam by working hard to heal the whole body, and then for a short period you can get way way strong in whatever you want, your organs still used to healing the whole body. anyways… just ideas, but i am a huge fan of armwrestlers puting weight on their legs to get stronger. (easy to say for super heavywieghts, but i would still say do it regardless of class)

On the doctor point and everything. i would just say a few things. All these medicines need to be more studied.. there is lots of data out there, it is just for the most part underground i believe. guys should just know what your getting yourself into in regards to the “level” that you are armwestling on, take small steps, regardless of the athlete your pulling.. i think it is ok for guys to pull in this sport doing whatever they want to do, just so long as there is honesty, cause this is sport.. not win at all costs, and if your gonna disapprove of R.C. for pulling tournament, but its cool for her to pull supermatches cause everyone knows the deal, its no different then a dude pulling in a tournament if he’s got more in him.

anyways. i feel like it is still the dirtiest subject in sport, but light does need to shine on it otherwise it will never heal. “

Alexey Voevoda - Bobsleigh Olympic Silver Medal - Vancouver 2010

INTERVIEW: Alexey Voevoda about armwrestling and bobsleigh

Alexey Voevoda - Bobsleigh Olympic Silver Medal - Turin 2006; Bobsleigh Olympic Bronze Medal - Vancouver 2010
Alexey Voevoda – Bobsleigh Olympic Silver Medal – Four-man – Turin 2006
Bobsleigh Olympic Bronze Medal – Two-man – Vancouver 2010
Bobsleigh Olympic Gold Medal – Two-man – Sochi 2014
Bobsleigh Olympic Gold Medal – Four-man – Sochi 2014

” Moscow recently hosted an important event in the world with an unprecedented armsportu prize money – International A-1 Russian Open World armwrestling Grand Prix. This tournament has become the most prestigious and most expensive project in arm wrestling, which combines the best traditions of the global sports and entertainment events. Attended the event three times world champion in arm wrestling, world champion in 2011 in bobsleigh, winner of silver and bronze medals in the Olympics this winter sport Alexei Voyevoda. He has held several workshops on rukoboryu, and then answered questions from the TV channel “Fighter” on the new tournament, preparing for the Olympic Games in Sochi in 2014, told of his sports nutrition and considered how to promote arm wrestling.

– How do you assess the importance of the tournament World armwrestling Grand Prix A1 RUSSIAN OPEN for the development of power sports in the country?

– Any similar event promotes sport and healthy lifestyles. And the tournament with an unprecedented prize money at all was a welcome event. Such conduct must match. Unfortunately, arm wrestling is not very widely publicized. Wow, that trend is changing. Thank channel “Fighter” that he decided to show the event live. I hope the young guys after watching a broadcast will not drink beer, and will engage in arm wrestling and other sports.

– Why did you decide not to participate in it as an athlete?

– I did not prepare for this championship, because it is just not going to participate. I gave a master class in arm wrestling and struggled a couple of times at the hands of strogmenom, absolute world champion among professionals, the title of “most powerful man in Russia,” Denis Tsyplenkova, so it was comfortable and then act.

– Denis is currently impossible to win?

– I do not have one, but about the other can not say anything, everything is solved in the fight. But in fact he is one of the strongest armrestlerov world.

– How did you come in arm wrestling?

– Initially, I was just doing to their health. One participated in competitions in weightlifting in Sochi. From the first time won the athlete, who was European champion Kote Razmadze. Later he became my coach and friend. After three months, I have successfully made the championship of Russia, then Europe, then the world.

– Here at the event are two types of power of martial arts: the classic arm wrestling and armfayt. Not all readers know how they differ from each other.

– Armfayt – an invention of Igor Mazurenko, when only two athletes should hold six matches, which can be determined by the result of the strong. Personally, I love the classic arm-wrestling when rivals are constantly changing.

– Does the process of preparing for and armfaytu arm wrestling?

– Of course. By armfaytu, in my opinion, easier to prepare. Here one opponent, who are learning to fight and under which korrektiruesh his technique. The classic arm wrestling to prepare thoroughly: it is necessary to raise the PFD, the level of force to be able to fight in different ways and be prepared for any eventuality.

– Bob and arm wrestling – two completely different sports. How is it that you have gone out of rukoborya in bobsledding?

– Objectively speaking, arm wrestling – a sport that shows what a person ligament. If a person has a good bunch, he is strong and explosive. When I’m in the business of armsport, I was pretty explosive, could start quickly and win. Then I decided to try my hand at bobsled – a sport which is gaining momentum overseas, but we have not been popular. I tried it and I did. I realized that I could push a bobsled armsport and armsport a bobsled.

– You are the owner of the silver and bronze medals, the Olympic Winter Games. The fans expect from you the highest standard of prestigious medal games. How will you prepare for the 2014 Olympics in Sochi?

– We have specific training. I accelerate, so must be the most powerful, fast and explosive. These qualities can be pumped at the gym, which I do. The main part of my preparation to begin in October or November.I’ll start actively pumping legs, do the post. When lift GPP will practice the power running. Before the Olympics, I plan to speak at the World and European championships, as well as in the World Cup in Sochi, will test new Olympic track.

– How to combine training in arm wrestling and bobsled?

– Now I do not advocate arm wrestling on a professional level, so I just rocked. As soon as I consider that to get back to armsport (and I’ll make sure it), then give up specialized training in bobsleigh and start special training on rukoboryu. At the same time prepare for these two types will not work – they are too different. In bobsleigh muscles should be soft and maximally stretched, while armrestlerov – rigid, with concrete corners to make one powerful and explosive spurt.

– Tell us about your diet?

– Now I’ve switched to adequate food species, academician Alexander Ugolev described in the book “The Theory and nutrition and trophic ecology” (1991). I herbivorous and carnivorous, and frugivorous. So I do not eat meat, and drink the fruits, vegetables, and fruits. In winter, eat meals on the water. After the transition to a vegetarian diet, I feel better, stressoutoychivost increased, increased speed and strength. The fact that the microflora, which synthesizes hormones, prohormones, gives us all free. You just need to eat the right foods, among which the meat is not included.

– Do you use protein shakes for muscle growth?

– No, I did almost never drank, because they have not assimilated.

– From the chest now what weight presses?

– Recently, 180 kg twice raised. But I’m not actively swinging. I rest in the summer.

– And your personal record on press of a bar from the chest?

– Maximum 240 kg twice a narrow grip.

– And in the weightlifting would never want to act?

– No, it’s not really my thing. Although it is very beautiful and spectacular view, I wonder not fight with a bar, and a live opponent.

– Some athletes like Gary Goodridge, went out of arm wrestling in combat sports. And you would not want to try their hand at martial arts?

– I have another dream, so I will do my best to implement it, I will firmly deal with politics.

– At the 2012 Olympics in London is not going to go?

– We would like to go as a fan, but I could not. Unfortunately, there is no time, but I worry about all the Russian athletes participating in the Games.

– Did you make any predictions about the performance of the Russian team at the Olympic Games 2012 in London?

– Forecasts Weather Center does, but they do not always coincide with reality. You can even make predictions in roulette, bet on “zero” or color. Our team was preparing hard for the Olympics, so it shows the results for which it is capable. A reading tea leaves have been taken.

– You always say that any athlete must be a patriot and to triumph of his country. What do you think of the behavior of Russian football after Euro 2012?

– Athletes – people who are always in the spotlight. Press can make them heroes or bulldoze a plinth, a stone was left. No matter how they were made, you can not find fault their athletes. Andrei Arshavin was an emotional crash after the unfortunate performances of the team, so he threw a sloppy phrase. And the press for which he leveled with dirt. We are all people, not robots. And athletes – people explosive, impulsive. Anyway for future competitions in football, we will invite the same folks who were recently unsuccessful.

– Mixed Martial Arts in the country have now become extremely popular. Many new tournaments: M-1 Fighter, Fight Nights, PROFC, M-1 Challenge, Dictator FC it.d. What to bring arm wrestling on the same level?

– It is necessary to tell more about this sport, maintain a neat campaign, putting special tables for arm wrestling in school and on the playground, it is better to work with the press. In general, this question should be solved at the level of government, because otherwise we will go from talented guys and accomplished athletes. Naturally, rukobortsa hurt that they do not value the same as Olympians.

– The other side of the popularity of sports – the emergence of a large number of organizations and psevdochempionskih versions. Not only fans, but also experts are confused who the real champion, who faked.

– A large number of organizations, federations, promoters always is good for the sport, because it means that the sport develops. Ordinary people will be confused and confused, but explain to them who really deserves the title of champion, should the competent press. Thanks to you all understand who the real champion, and who – a PR project. And to get rid of the fake champions, simply hold unification fights that dot the «i». ”
