I wrote down the moments in the video when you can hear John Brzenk speaking in English.

They talk about nutrition, about what happened at A1 Russian Open 2015 when John and other  armwrestlers didn’t receive the prize money, and other subjects.

A: I base it on how I feel

A: right now I am eating and enjoying it, that’s healthy

A: What quantity? I eat until the feeling of active hunger disappears

A: Don’t overeat
A: we can out eat each other from hunger
A: It’s better not to eat if you are not hungry

A: when you become a vegetarian, and begin to comparing your results form before and after, I am sure you will see some improvements

A: before I used to do lunges at 240kg and now at 320kg.

INTERVIEW: John Brzenk on Arm Wrestling Nation Radio, 22 June 2015

16:23 Talk about armwrestling training / training methods compared to “ToddZilla” , nutrition / diet before an armwrestling competition.
30:07 Talk about steroids use and abuse, doping, drug testing. John said he didn’t know anything about steroids until his early 40’s. After that, he has been prescribed some drug by his doctor. He never felt the need to look into doping, and always gave a laugh when people said: you can’t be competitive as armwrestler unless you are juiced up and taking steroids. He had a laugh because he did it (being competitive without taking steroids) for 25 years, he knows it can be done, it is not a necessity to be a good armwrestler.
32:50 Alper Cosar asked John if he sees a correlation between the domination of the Eastern European armwrestlers (of the lower weight classes) and steroid abuse. John replied he believes there are more people interested in armwrestling in Europe right now than are interested in the sport in USA. Most of the good armwrestlers in USA are still the old timers. It is a new sport in Russia, where it was introduced just 20 years ago. John refuses to believe that they have a magic pill.
34:15 Craig Soubliere asked John if he will compete in Nemiroff 2015 / Zloty Tur 2015 this year. John replied that he has no plans to participate in anything associated with PAL. That is because PAL was appalling when John decided to sign with UAL, although John tried very hard to work with both sides UAL / PAL, and make them understand he can do both.

Two new interviews with  from September 2014. I made a summary of the interesting points from each interview (but there are many more, you can read all below):

In the first interview from sport-express.ru, Alexey Voevoda speaks about the armwrestling sport which is fighting for getting into the Olympic family. If that happens, he will be able to carry out a cherished dream – to win Olympic gold medals in both winter and summer sports.

Alexey explains that he had about 200 students for armwrestling, but in the end only 10 guys could withstand the pain given by armwrestling – because it combines static and dynamic loads. Muscle pain after exercise is even pleasant, but the pain from bone and ligaments is not pleasant at all. So why torture yourself ? In the name of power, in the name of victory over yourself ! Alexey is convinced that only the person capable of fighting with himself, can achieve something in life. Alexey has a unique training method which has much better results than what can be achieved by standard methods of training, and the risk of injuries is lower.

Alexey keeps training in the same gym from “Pulling John” movie because he loves it, but that gym is located in the basement of the school and it belongs to Department of Education Office. If it was a separate building, he would probably have bought it and made a nice club for the children to go there. But to get into this basement, every day we climbed over the fence height of two and a half meters… Because he always trains late in the evening, from 8 to 9, the school at that time has already been closed, and to get on its territory is possible only through the fence. Previously, clients of neighboring cafe opposite were very surprised to see some healthy men climbing over the fence, but now they got used to it and they do not react. In the same interview Alexey talks about how he became a vegetarian. According to the rules of Bobsleigh, the total weight for the two athletes should not exceed 220 kg. He had to weigh a maximum of 112 kg, while in armwrestling he weighed 118 kg. Naturally, he tried every possible way to lose weight. But there is such a thing as muscle memory – when you’re constantly coming back to the usual weight. He tried different diets – and some of them were really bad for him. And then he read a book by academician Ugolev “Theory of adequate nutrition”, saw the logic in it, and tried it. He became raw foodist for three months. Perfect state of health, stretching improved sleep became smaller and he dreamed brighter dreams. When you eat the right vegetarian food, you just lose the feeling of hunger.

In the end of the first interview Alexey Voevoda tells his secrets for happiness, his formula is simple – be yourself. You have to be good, honest and decent. Live for today, be happy that you have.

In the second interview from kuban.aif.ru we learn that Alexey Voevoda is an honorary citizen of the Sochi city and he was awarded the Order “For Services to the Fatherland» IV Degree.

Alexey inherited physical traits from his grandparents. One grandfather was very tall – almost 2 meters high (Alexey Voevoda’s height – 194 cm), and the second grandfather was very strong. In old age, he could lift with just one of his “Cossack” hand a Zaporozhets car.

There you will get 2 guys that are undefeated in each pool on the – A side, and they will have a supermatch from which it will be determined the 1st and the 2nd place.  The armwrestlers from each pool who lost a match but they got to the semifinal in – B side, they will have a supermatch for the 3rd and 4th place.

Devon Larratt talks about his right arm. His right arm is stronger now than he was at WAL Las Vegas, but Devon expects it will be 2 more years until before he can say he is 100%, and he will not remember having surgery. But he is now fully willing to commit 100% to armwrestling as hard as he can in a tournament or in a supermatch, he is past the point where he fears re-injuring himself.
